MR Transmission and T-case oil

Well I have read quite a bit and did many searches. There are plenty of opinions on what to use for the 5 speed, but not much on the 6 speed transmission. So, should I use the Diaqueen Super Multi Gear Oil, Part # MZ313376 or the Syncromesh Gl-4 oil (not synthetic). Transfer case and rear differential use Diaqueen LSD Gear Oil, GL-5 oil in 90 weight or what. Someone please clarify who actually has an MR and is using what they recommend.

Thanks

You can use syncromesh on the tranny, but would highty recomend the Diaqueen for the TC and rear diff.

I've got the Pennzoil syncromesh in the MR and it shifts nice. Any time it won't shift it is driver error after the new fluid, ss line, restrictor removal.

The syncromesh I would change every 7500-10K though, or every 2nd or 3rd oil change. It's cheap so change it often as its not synthetic. You may even opt to do 1.3 qt of syncromesh & 1qt BG syncroshift for a little added wear protection. Don't try to jam in 3.0qts like the 5sp., it only takes 2.3L FYI. Personally I hate crappy shifting so I use 100% syncromesh.

Thanks for the replys, so syncromesh is ok for MR trannys. I read in a thread that we should be using the oem Diaqueen. What amount for each is needed?

I believe I read somewhere that the 05 t-cases use a different oil (not diaqueen) because of the ACD. Please check your service manual to verify the viscosity requirements.

No.. Only difference is ATF SP III fluid for the ACD pump. You should not have to mess with it unless it is low or discolored. Even when it appears low, go drive around, park it and check the level again as it will come up some.

So the ACD has a separate fluid reservior that's separated from the gear oil?

Yes, which is the reason why '05's cannot have the intercooler sprayer as the ACD pump fluid reservoir takes it's place under the hood.

God this subject is so annoying. Everytime I think one way, my mind gets changed. I was just going to do OEM, but the trans fluid is like $75.00 per qt, which 2.3 qts. is needed. I am definately using OEM for the TC and rear diff. So back to syncromesh, how long have you used it in the MR tranny? Does anyone know of a cheaper place to get OEM fluid, I tried mitsubishiparts.net already.

There are some places that sell diaqueen in 5 gallon barrels. I think that would be the cheapest. Get some local guys to go in on it with you.

3 Qts of Pennzoil is like $15 dollars. It works. This is my last response to this thread. Use the advice or don't it's your car. Car's putting 320 to the wheels as is and shifting has never been smoother other than the day it rolled off the lot.

I beleive it works in the short term, just concerned over the long haul. How long have you been using it in your trans? I agree it is a hell of alot cheaper than the OEM. It is $35 for 3 quarts. Well I appreciate you getting back with that little bit of info to help my decision.

Mr. MR, you don't necessarily have to get OEM for the tranny fluid. Just get something that meets the factory viscosity requirements and is GL4. I know the 5-speeds can take either 75W90 or 75W85. I'm not sure about the 6-spd. I would imagine it's the same.
