RPS twin disk > HKS twin disk?
RPS twin disk > HKS twin disk?
I was checking out a vendor's site looking for clutches while trying to plan out my upcoming Evo project (I like to plan things out ahead
) and I saw the RPS Carbon / Carbon Twin Disc clutch was $2800 while the HKS Twin disk clutch was $1900. Is the RPS clutch that much better than the HKS to warrant the extra $900, or, for someone who would just be starting out and probably dealing with 350 or so whp, would it not make that much of a difference? I want a good clutch that I can build up the car around and not worry about (until it wears out) and I like the idea of a twin disk because I heard the engagement is much easier than a beefed up single disk, which would make it nice on the street. Also, is a light flywheel really worth it? I mean, less rotational mass helps the RPMs jump up nicely, but does the stock turbo hold boost well enough to not fall too far while shifting? I had that problem with my integra - the turbo was pretty large for the engine, and when I would shift it would lose boost since the engine revved down so quickly. Anyway, I appreciate any help or advice you can lend me. Thanks!

as a former user of the HKS twin...I would advise to go RPS if those are your only two options...The HKS twin was great...but I had my fair share of problems with it.
Besides..the design isnt all that great IMO. There is a weak part in the center where the spacer is...they used some thin bolts to hold it together.
Go another twin disc like exedy if u dont want to buy the RPS just yet. The carbon clutches do make a difference though and they have more benefits to them. If you can afford it go the RPS.

Plenty of threads. Here's a recent one:

Well if your only gonna have 350 HP, i would go with an ACT clutch cause it still holds a lot of torque and is meant for street use. In addition, its only about $500-600, depending on where u buy it. But u mentioned that u plan on making more than 350 HP, so depending on how much u plan on making, i would wait to see cause droping in a $3,000 clutch such as the RPS is pretty drastic. But then again if u can afford it, then by all means go with the RPS over the HKS. Just remember, the RPS twin discs are like the ferraris of clutches......anyways, good luck!

Well, the Evo I'm looking at now actually has an ACT 2600 clutch in it right now...I was planning for once it wore out, what I would get. Originally I wasn't planning on getting an evo with an upgraded clutch. I think what I'd do is mod the Evo until the ACT wore out, then replace it with an Exedy twin disk. Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it!

The Cusco and Exedy's, or even ATS's, are more clutch than 99% of the Evo's out there need, and are far less costly. As great of a clutch as the RPS is (yes they make nice items), it's a tough pill for lots of people to swallow

with 450 whp? isnt it rated to hold way higher than that?

I wont bother listing the number of cars with significantly higher HP that are running this clutch......
for a car under 400 hp, the ACT is impossible to beat IMHO.
