This is the only pic I have of my HKS cams. They don't look at all like the pics from the first post. The edges of the lobes are much smoother.

Have you talked to the company yet who produced that cam? You might get a better explination from them.

Cams are not under high cylinder pressures like pistons. Forged cams would just be more expensive. Seriously, I would NOT be worried about the appearance of the camshaft as long as the lobes are smooth and nice, which those appear to be. The HKS are more blingy, but who cares unless you have a clear valve cover?

This may be slightly off topic, Can you tell which cam is which by looking at them 264vs272 or in vs ex?

You can def. tell intake vs exhaust due to the cam sensor on the exhaust and you can tell duration difference if you look very closely and use a little intuition.

Hi,

The BC cams are also chilled cast like the HKS, which actually is cheaper in the long run if the manufacturer is making high volume. Most OEM camshafts are chilled cast.

Forged cams are basically only used in Formula 1 and other race applications, and are not really necessary IMO.

Any cams who meet certain hardness characteristics and have a smooth lobe should be fine. But again, if the lobes are pitted, this usually leads to rapid deterioration and cam failure. But again, material composition is important, as it is not unusual to have a cam crack in half on a high revving engine.

Cheers,

Gary

Off-topic again, but I wonder how significant is the weight and inertia of heavier cams? The OEM cams are hollow (for a reason I presume) and would forged cams be lighter than cast cams?

I think the problem with the first post is, the macro on his camera is so good that it shows the true imperfections that can only be seen with a magnifne glass. Mine look good. Maybe if i macro'd the hell out of my cams they'd look like the original posters too.

See for yourself. I can assure you the other half looks as good.

Received my GSC cams today, they look just like the first post. Lobes are nice and clean, rough elsewhere. I bought these because it appears the performance will be better than HKS cams, not the looks.

I took them that close to put the emphasis on certain areas. You don't have to search around the pics to look for the areas I am concerned about. What's wrong with that?

Thanks. I received my cams today but the boxes are not labeled and there isn't any paperwork telling me which is which. But I assume a professional should know by looking at them.
