Cool,

My thread came back up.

I actually dynoed my car with and without silencer, and it lost 50 (FIFTY) HP due to the silencer (249 with, 300 actual WHP without on a dynojet). I drove around with no silencer for awhile, but decided to put it back in.

I'm going to re-install my stock catback for emissions testing and everything, but I would bet that a stock exhaust would make me lose 20-30 HP, which would be better than losing 50 HP with the silencer. Any thoughts on this? Once I have the sticker, I'll start looking at other ways to quiet it down without choking power so badly. A resonator or muffler like the last post may help, thanks for the idea. Alternately, I'll leave my stock exhaust and get a cutout at the dp.

Take care,

wow, same problem here!

My car's exhaust got twice as loud w/ cams - 272/272! My TBE is finished off by Esplier JGT500 and prior to cams, it was one of the quieter catbacks.

BUT, after cams and 3" hiflow cat - crazy loud on my RS. So, I added TWO resonators and to no avail - still LOUD!!! It did nothing for noise reduction!

So, now I have TurboXS RFL catback and it is a little quieter. It came w/ resonator and no taper at flanges and its muffler is noticably larger than old catback.

Now, I'm thinking of adding some interior insulation and if that does'nt do it then I'll take out the cams and do without 20 hp and the crazy loud noise!!!

Bring to a shop have it welded in the straght section of the catback. Helix and bucshur are the only exhausts I know of without a neckdown, but Helix looks way better IMO
I noticed you have the Helix too, did you do this modification?

huh, that sucks. Now I am stuck -- don't know what exhaust to get for my IX MR. I definitely don't want it loud. Avo, rm01a, Evo2, Tanabe Touring ... ?

the catback isn't where the power is.... if you buy something like the dcsport downpipe/testpipe combo for $240 shipped which is the going price around here youll make 25-30whp.... the catback is good for 5-10whp max yet its the most expensive part...

if you really wanted a tbe the rsr exmag and greddy evo2 are near stock dba.

financially it makes sense to keep the stock catback and get a testpipe, instead of getting a hfc and a catback... they cancel each other out

Cheers!
