Dry nitrous install EMS
I just installed a simple dry nitrous setup in our evo8 today to learn how the ems nitrous features work out and to pick up some performance for an upcoming race.
hopefully I will have some good results to speak of this weekend if the weather is nice. The car ran 12.001 @ 115.3 on 93 octane pumpgas this previous friday, hopefully running a 50-75 shot with racegas we should see some 120-124mph trap speeds.
I figured this would be interesting to look at if nothing else. This is more for a learning experience with the ems than anything.

The dry setup has less complications with cyl to cyl distribution as the ntrious expands evenly right away. fuel is the main worry for distribution as it comes out of suspension easily.
The only hangup I can see happening would be with the engagement systems in the EMS. If there is a software problem and the ems activates the nitrous relay but does not apply the fuel trim/ignition timing retard, there could be some trouble.

I don't think the evo will get anywhere near 10's. If putting in racegas and retuning it would put it at 11.6 120mph without the nitrous, Id be happy with that.
I plan on running at most 75 shot of nitrous, but I have a .030 "35hp" jet in there now. going to start out small and have the ems put in alot of fuel to start. Will increase the nitrous jet untill the AF gets where I want it provided the knock is under control.
if the car ran say...11.9 @ 116 on turbo only on racegas with conservative tune...a clean running 75 shot in all 4 gears would put it at 11.2-11.3 @ 124 assuming good traction.
I doubt I will get it up past 45-50 shot anyway so 11.6 119 Ill be very happy. Ill be the most happy if the nitrous/tuning works out well, even if the track results aren't that great. like I said before, I want to learn how to use this ems feature MORE than I want the car to go faster.

everything works, other than I have an ignition missifre from 6500rpm up. with such a small shot and the low 650-700psi bottle pressure, it took only a few % increase in the fuel map. Hitting the nitrous at 3000rpm, it will make 45ftlb more torque and spool the turbo about 350rpm sooner! great bottom end power.
Will be doing a more in depth test this weekend at the track

Took the DS Evo8 back to the track tonight after 2 important changes.
dry nitrous shot.
bottle heater.
Runs at street boost level (24psi dropping to 22). I had about 2 gallons of 93 pumpgas in the tank, added 3 gallons of sunoco 112 "blue". Track was sold out of 116 gas.
anyway runs went as follows:
12.498 @ 114.90 1.826 bog launch..as run off street no nitrous
12.064 @ 117.27 1.690 nitrous on in 2-3-4 gears. 30 shot
11.775 @ 118.44 1.725 nitrous on at 10mph in first gear 45shot
11.788 @ 118.59 1.709
11.524 @ 118.81 1.575 no tire spin!! all season Kumho ASX tires!
11.591 @ 119.88 1.633 spinning tires, track getting slick 70shot
11.671 @ 119.11 1.702 more tire spin, missfiring in top 4th
11.616 @ 118.68 1.710 alot of missfire before the traps in 4th
empty bottle...end of night.
well..the car ran within 25 thousanths of betting booted for no safety equipment.
. NHRA requires a rollbar at 11.499 now

new plugs cured the missfire. I absolutly love the way the ems controls the nitrous system. It worked flawlessly tonight. power increase was predictable as well with the bottle warmer working automaticly.

there is nothing to gain by going direct port. The reason direct port kits are good, is becuase of even cyl to cyl distribution. But that is only a factor in wet kits, as the nitorus is a gas and expands eventy very well. fuel does not. If you inject a lot of fuel through a single fogger, you end up with distribution problems in an intake like ours that was not designed to flow fuel in suspension.
Im running a dry kit...all the addititonal fuel is supplied through the injectors by the ems's nos/fuel map. I have no worries about a backfire in the intake or cyl to cyl distribution issues.
basicly, I can run as much nitrous as I feel comfortable running...limited by the fuel injector size (im running 850's at only 75% duty cycle on nitrous) and the strength of the stock engine. I would guess at 175 hp of nitrous, the solonoid would need an upgrade as well as the feed line up to -6.

^^ Damn, how did you manage that, no tire spin on those tires.
Guess results were good then with the AEM and the dry setup. If that BR440 gets in your way I know of a car that could put it to use.
