piecing your own turbo kit

I want to know how much money can one save if they were to piece together your own kit? I know buying a kit is more expensive but in return you get a proven turbo that can make good power like AMS. My friend keeps telling me to piece my own kit together and save $$$ but im afraid I the results wont be as good, let alone parts that done fit perfectly.

I would buy a kit.. In order to save money you're probably going to have to order from multiple vendors.. which just means more hassle IMHO.

maybe someone who has done could chime in on what parts he used that fits. I dont think picking out a manifold is the hard part, its the other parts that im afraid wont fit. Any idea how much just the parts alone could cost, besides the turbo and manifold?
