Cold air intake for evo VIII

I been searching and it seems the injen cold air with intercooling pipe is the only cold air intake for the 05 evo,
What do you guys think of this intake any power gains.. I am asking because it not very cheap.
Is there any thing better.

the Injen kit is not a Cold air Intake........i think APS is the only company that makes a COLD AIR Intake for the evo.....

to get the cold air intake you have to get rid of the intercooler sprayer. aps and i think buschur (isnt even out yet, i dont think) are the only ones with it.

Your stock box is a cold air intake. Plus, according to AMS, unless you tune after you install and aftermarket one, you will probably lose power.

The only thing I've seen that is a true cold air intake is the APS one that goes down into the fender well. Actually the link in the above post refers to the APS one, NOT AEM. Too many abbreviations here!
Anyway, I suggest putting your $200 intake fund toward something that makes real power - cat-back exhaust, even muffler delete or SAFC for a start.
Good luck!

http ://www.lancershop.com/customer/product.php?productid=17&cat=2&page=1

Im confussed what is the best intake to get? Right now I have a greedy evo cat-back exhaust system, and looking for a good intake.

I've heard the same thing about losing power with a Cold Air Intake. After helping my bro tune his STi, we experienced some major problems with the CAI and changed over to a short-ram system. I've heard of a lot of people experiencing problems with it.

^^^ link doesn't work.......... the injen kit is good but i think the tuners have made the most power with the HKS kit......but the stock box is very good.....don't expect to get alot of HP when you put a new intake on......also if you get a new intake it is highly recommended you get a tune for it

APS's CAI will not work on the '05's due to the location of the front diff resevoir. the stock airbox w/a k&n drop in is good for 400whp. short rams may sound better but may lose power from heat soak in the summertime.

Your link doesn't work, but basically, any intake that sucks air from inside the engine compartment is just a high flow intake, not "cold air." The air under the hood is usually very warm, that's why the stock one has a scoop that runs forward to high pressure area above the grill. Mitsubishi engineers are actually pretty smart apparently. Anyway, the high flow ones sound nice, but suck in warm air. The APS one goes inside the fender well, so that looks like a good aftermarket choice. But Shiv Pathak, a well respected tuner, claims the stock box and filter is fine until you are pushing 350+ horses.

Agree with housedj about the K&N panel filter. That's the cheapest option here and probably the best one. Just remember these higher flow filters rarely protect your motor as well as the stock one.

hmmm,...does it even matter? you are sending pressurized air thru the intercooler to get it cold. What is the use for a cold air intake before that?...02 bux, i mean cents.

FYI Their isnt a cold air intake for the 05 evo. Because of the active center diff. their is no way to rout the piping. Before there was the resivor for the intercooler sprayer, but now the ACD unit is in its place.

Not to mention the guys are right, if you dont tune your car after getting any type of intake you are likely to loose power. I have heard that the 05's are even more prone to giving people trouble when they add intakes at VTA BOV.
Just my .02

well This is what I am putting together...

Greddy evo2 cat-back exhaust (all ready installed)
greddy e-manage with support tool ( getting ready to install)

future purchases
greddy type-s bov
GReddy PRofec E-01 Boost Controller
Nitrous Express NX N-tercooler Systems
Auto Meter Carbon Fiber Series Gauges & Tachometers

what do you guys think I will gain for hp with this setup..
do you suggest any thing else go with it, or any thing I should do diffrent.

My goal is 350/370 whp with out taking the engine out of the car.(if its even possible)
My evo has less than a thousand miles on it..

greddy e-manage has had a tendency to boost creep. get it tuned .
with the stuff you listed, i predict about 280whp on a DD dyno WITHOUT a flash. with a flash, easily over 300whp. add cams, gears & a retune, you'll hit your goal easily.

what do you mean boost creep, won't the GReddy PRofec E-01 Boost Controller fix that problem..

and as far as tunning I was hopeing I could learn to tune my car over time using the Greddy support tool..

I haven't found a tuner, dyno, or even a performace shop in my area yet..

Does the cams or gears require the engine to be pulled for installation..
