Changing the Hotside...
Changing the Hotside...
All:
Oh my God. This is going to be a job. The part is cheap. The labor is ridiculous. Here's my dilema: I could attempt to change it myself (with another mechanic friend) and risk messing up bolts, etc.. and get the best bang for my buck - only the cost of the housing. Or I can let RnR do it for $350 + cost of another day off of work. Or I can let the dealer do it for $450 + new gaskets, etc.. and don't have to worry about any mess ups and still have a warranty if something goes wrong.
What do you guys think?

I hate paying for labor so I think if I ever try to do that mod i'd try it myself, but if you're worried about the warranty and all that then i'd have the dealership do it...although I hate them touching my car.

I'd say do it yourself. You'll learn about it, you'll have an understanding of it, you'll have a better appreciation of it, and you'll have a good sense of accomplishment from it.
Sounds silly, but it's true.

Just remove turbo/exhaust manifold and o2 housing all as 1 unit, can have it off in 1/2 hour if you have never done this before,as the most time consuming part is removing the undertray and you really dont even have to remove that. Then you have the whole unit in front of you for easy removal and if anything goes wrong you can easily bring unit to someone with torches to have nuts/bolts heated up for easy removal.BTW,you dont even need to remove rad to do this.

I'm going to play it safe and get it done by the dealer.

wait... you seriously think having the dealer change the turbo hotside for you keeps you under warranty... if that part breaks??? I find that hard to believe that they would actually honor that.

But you mgiht want to get that in writing from the Service Manager and local Mitsubishi warranty rep... just in case the mechanic decides to work for the Honda dealership next door, after he installs your turbo hotside.
Just in case...
