2g lifters getting installed

Well I finally got the 2g lifters w/3mm hole in the mail today and I am stoked for the install tomorrow. To give a little background, when I had my cams put in the lifters were never bled therefore I believe the insides of the lifters were pushed off center or cocked inside the lifter bore and after time the material was ground away causing "blow-by" inside the lifter not allowing them to fully expand causing the rocker to slap the valve.

I will keep this thread updated with as much info on this as possible. If all is good in a week or so, I will give the name of the company who supplied these to me. I almost didn't buy them because of the price being it's 1/6th of the dealers price. $115 vs. $640.

Timzcat: I'll have a bunch of lifters if you still want to dismantle a few. Send me your address again.

Well, they are installed. The design is just a little different to get them in but they fit perfect. I tried to prime them the best I could before they went in the car. Before the car was fired the cam sensor plug was pulled to try and get some more oil into them. Upon startup, like usual they seemed a litlle noisey but quickly quieted down with the engine cold. So far so good. I put less than a mile on the new lifters and the same noise is still there but a lot less noisey, I had to stick my head out the window to actually hear them. Like I said there is less than a mile with no rpm over 3000. I am expecting the more seated the get in the lifter bore the more quiet they will get. I plan on a new oil change tomorrow to try and get this done in the best way possible, and see if they will quiet down even more. So far they are beyond my expectations.

Sounds like a good alternative to "Evo" lifters.

Just so you know, the DSM's factory proceedure for pressurizing new lifters requires idling the car at >3000RPMs for 30 sec, the idle for 30 sec, then back up and repeat over and over until they're quiet. I did this on a DSM that I rebuilt the head on and the lifters became silent after a few cycles. I'm not remembering the exact RPM, but I can check my FSM when I get home.

Hmm, I'll try that since I only went around the block last night. Never heard of that method before.

Well I tried the rpm thing that superhatch suggested but the smae noise is back. Sounds just like it did when the old lifters were in there. This sound is really starting to get to me but I'm still going to try and find it. Here's my gameplan. I have Rnr injectors coming in the mail hopefully. And I know the stockers can get noisey. I did the screwdriver to the ear trick and it seems to me the #3 injector sound lazy, the sound is different than the other cylinders injectors. I wish I knew how to post a video so someone might have some insight or may have heard the same thing. I am begging for some new ideas.

You think? Maybe I am worring a little too much, but the sound wasn't there last year. Someone send me a new stereo system so I dont hear the noise anymore and I'll send ya a b-day and X-mas card.

Generally the lifter tap will disappear after at 15-20 min. drive. It takes to long to silence them while idling and reving up. I just get in the car and drive around until they're quiet. Works nearly every time. (unless you've got one that's collapsed)

I just replaced all 16 lifters. 15-20 min is how long I have to wait to hear the noise, my next guess is that it's not the lifters.

Noises can be deceiving. If you've just replaced them and you still hear the noise, I'd venture to guess it's something else. Unfortunately, you are to far away to listen to it myself. Hope you can figure out what's going on.
