turbo question regarding dump tube?

Is there a difference with the turbo tube being dumped(not sure what its called) back into the exhaust or into the air? What are the pros and cons of this?

Yeah, 1) it's loud, 2) there's more room in the exhaust for discharge from the turbine and 3) it's far from emissions legal. It's called the wastegate discharge BTW. When the WG opens and it starts dumping exhaust straight to atmosphere, everyone within a 6 block radius will know you have reached full boost, including police

Yeah, I don't have any idea how loud it will be but I will lkely end up having mine routed back into the DP. That is one drawback to the Full-Race set up. They refuse to do anything but an external dump claiming that the manifold is for off-road use only and that re-routing would expose them to liabilities with regards to EPA regulations.

Will also sound very different depending where it is tapped into. A manifold mount has more of a loud exhaust leak type sound, and an O2 Housing dump is more of an air velocity type of sound, still very loud. I think the manifold dump is louder, and O2 dump sounds better, just my opinion.

so there are no differences in performance? If there aint no performance gains then I dont understand why they would make it... maybe cheaper/easier to fabricate one that just dumps into the atmosphere?

I'm guessing that dumping to atmosphere probably preforms better on average depending on how well the re-routing is implemented. It's my understanding that if re-routing is not properly implemented the disruption in the exhaust gas flow is disturbed. How much a of a difference this makes is probably minimal.

Also I can see that the external dump is much cheaper to fabricate. Less welds, less bends, fewer fitment and jig issues.

Imagine an old P51 mustang plane taking off. That is what it sounds like. Its Hideous, I tryed it and took it off directly and rerouted it back in. I haven't seen any downfalls in tuning from it due to backpressure, I don't think you will until you get into the very high HP number unless you have a small exhaust housing.

6 blocks is probably no lie about it being that loud either. Trust me you want to hear the sound of the GTBB turbo. It is enough to make it worth it.

I've been running the external dump tube for a month. I hate it. I'm going to have it routed back into the downpipe. Sounds like there's a YZ250 motocross bike under the hood when the wastegate opens.

Haha. Nice kit.

I was gonna have it dump external but was talked out of it. From what I have read and heard I'm glad I did. I mean, my car is loud enough already.

For most of the kits we sell we recommend the Internal dump. It is quieter and most guys don't want the attention an Ext. Dump creates. I don't think you will see a difference in performance until you are making big power.

I'm somewhat of a noob, but could you route the wastegate with a separate resonator and or muffler and not pipe it back into the exhaust proper? I know its still not street legal, but i'm lookin at it to reduce the noise level....

it makes more whp and torque with the dump.

if you look at half of the high hp evo setups, they use the dump or 5" DP. lol
