So, I shouldnt adjust anything as of yet but just take it back to the dealership where i got the clutch put in and tell them whats wrong and see what they say??? Thats kinda what im hearing........................................ Correct???
If it were the pushrod, does it take a lot of movement or just a lil bit down to the floor?

You are correct, DON'T do anything yet. All you have to do is take it in and say you are grinding in 5th gear. They are well aware of this problem, and will take the tranny apart and fix it under warranty! I guarentee it! tell them to check 3rd and 4th gear also. Tell them you say it on this site about a memo on these gears! The clutch should engage 1" off the floor, not all the way up!
take the car to any Mitshubishi dealer and tell them about the 5th gear, and whoever did the clutch, tell them what it is doing. who did the clutch? a pro or shadetree mechanic? did they bleed the system after the install? this could be your problem there. keep us/me posted!

Well I'll throw this in. I had pretty much all my syncro's replaced per the TSB with the "fix" and at that time my stock clutch was pretty much dead 23K miles or so I had them put in the ACT HDSS. Well my 5th gear grind is back again and they will not warranty it now. They blame it on the clutch. The dealership is pretty cool about it but the district rep will not give them permission to fix it with the aftermarket clutch. It only lasted me about 3-4K miles before coming back and I couldnt get the car in reverse (well easily, it was very hard) from day 1 and I even called them back and let them know about it (from day 1)
Anyways I just thought Id throw that out there, they said if the car hasnt been warrantied they will fix it even with an aftermarket clutch, but once it leaves the dealership, thats it.

RE: clutch pedal free play.
Here's what the Factory Service Manual, sec 21A-8 calls for: 4-13mm (0.16-0.51inch)
If you can't adjust the free play and keep the free play at this range or if the distance between the back of the clutch pedal arm at a point opposite the stopper on the floor (with the carpet removed) and the stopper cannot be kept at 4.5 inches or more you probably have air in the hydraulic system or a faulty master cylinder. Either of which will prevent the clutch from fully disengaging.
Also if you have an early 03 as I do you may have an improperly assembled gearbox. Mine was fixed under warranty. My clutch at 30k was fine but the gearbox was still toast.

From what I have heard talking to people the 5th gear grind is almost normal seems to happen to alot of people. I would only bother trying to get it fixed if it is real bad IMO.
Hard shifting at high rpms is due to improper clutch adjustment is due to your clutch not being fully disengaged. This will wear your synchros out quick! Aftermarket clutches will need to be adjusted to work properly.
Adjusting the clutch is pretty easy once you figure out how to do it properly. You do have to crawl underneath your dash and locate the pushrod to adjust. You can find it by crawling underneath, moving your clutch pedal, and find the rod as it moves w/ the clutch pedal.
You can follow this procedure:

The pictures are for a DSM, but the same principles should appy to the EVO.
Just remember to leave a little freeplay at the top of the pedal travel. The FSM spec calls for 0.16 - 0.51" of play.

Well my syncros dont grind, mostly just like it sticks or delays before I can get into gear. By adjusting the pushrod you believe this will help the same problem I have?
