Buddy Club Cams vs. HKS Cams

first of all, i would like to say that i already been doing searches on this forum for the past 2 hours on cams.

i have been hearing alot of HKS, and some ppl been saying the GSC cams are cheaper and work more efficient.

I got a deal for buddy club cams 264/272 for $460 local pick up, and $160 installed. the thing is that he doesnt carry HKS or GSC (which i prefer), and will not do installations for those brands.

i did research on buddy club cams, and theres was just like 3 threads of people talking about it, whereas HKS and GSC theres alot. i wanna ask you guys if buddy club is okay to go with. i prolly be spending around $150 more for HKS (more $$ for installation too), or like $100 more for GSC, and a whole lot of hassle too.

U think buddy club should be okay?

chris

Hey man,

I'm sure you found my threads.

I've had them in for ~8K miles and car is running great! Lots of power, decent idle. Next month I have to try and get smogged, probably gonna throw the stock cat/catback on...

Buddy Clubs aren't polished for the bling factor, but they sure work well. Probably very similar/identical to the GSC from dynos I've seen.

Good luck,

hey berkel!

yes, definitely, it was your thread that i found.. i think i found like 3 different threads that you started, aside from that, i never found any one talk about buddy club cams.

well obviously there is a big gain in power, but have you compared your cams to HKS or GSC?

nice to hear that you have it for 8k miles already.

Hi,

I didn't compare to HKS or GSC on my own car, but I dynoed at Pruven and with stock airbox and K&N panel filter I made 331 WHP and 338 WTQ (actual not corrected). About the same as another Evo with similar mods but GSC cams (and HKS intake), and a little more than another Evo with HKS 264s...

Honestly, I think they're all about the same, although from a small sample size, Buddy Club and GSC do seem to get slightly better numbers. There were two other threads from peeps with Buddy Clubs I saw before I got mine. One was a vendor who made a lot of power with SAFCII, another was the first Gruppe-S customer to get the cams.

For me, I was deciding between GSC and Buddy Club, and decided to go with Gruppe-S since I've had great experiences with them.

Also wanted to point out I have no cam gears and no idle issues other than a slight lope. No stalling or anything like that. Finally, Buddy Club only come 264/272e AFAIK, so you don't have the flexibility of going with straight 264s or 272i/264e.

Good luck,

FB
