Is my fuel pump going bad???
Help!!!
I was driving home from work and at about 2 in the morning about 5-7 miles from home my car starts acting like it's completely out of gas or starving for fuel. I had just drove about 20-25 miles earlier after filling up with BP (Amaco) 92 octane...basically a full tank of gas and had no problems...then all of a suddent I start getting the fuel cuts and the car start sputtering like there is no fuel.
I managed to limp home in 1-2nd gear at 2000 rpm or about 15mph.
If I tried to get on the gas or load the engine it would just bog down like there was no fuel there.
Car idles great and threw no Check Engine Light.
I have a Walbro 255 fuel pump in the car.
The symptoms I am describing are identical to running on fumes or having little to no gas in the tank and the engine just sputters like it's starving for fuel.
Other than that I can turn off the car, start it back up again, and it will idle fine.
It's almost like the pump is just about gone or out and will not pressurize the lines to recirculate the fuel.
Anyone else have a similar problem like this? My car is a 2005 MR with about 8700 miles on it.

mine started to go....(i think) but sometimes at idle the fuel pump sounded like a supercharger. also, my injectors were extremely loud, which at the time i thought had nothing to do with the fuel pump and I still kind of dont, but right after i replaced my old walbro with a new one the injector noise went away.
just get a new one...they are cheap insurance

Yes,
I noticed over the weekend that when I started my car up there would be a loud whining noise like a supercharger which was coming from the rear of the car regardless of how much fuel was in the tank.
Feels like a fuel issue to me and I have a hard time believing that since it's idling fine under NO LOAD that it's a fuel filter or injector issue.
Seems as soon as the engine starts needing more gas under load condition that's when the cars starts sputtering like no fuel is getting there.
Thanks for the replies!

i had the same prob. yesterday. the car seemed like it was sputtering. <note-i also had the a/c on and the temp was 109 degrees> i think its just because of the temp and the load on the car.
I would suggest you pull the pum out and look at it - I have seen times where improper installation would lead to the pump popping out and falling down when you hit a bump which would result in the fuel shooting out and back in the tank when you try to boost it

Well I have another Walbro 255 being next day aired to me and a good friend is going to help me install it.
Al, this could be the reason why we were seeing those timing issues over the weekend while tuning at WOT. I am thinking we had a fuel delivery issue that was slowly manifesting itself.
I will find out tomorrow for sure.
And to answer the earlier question about the AC being on just prior, I hadn't run the AC all day. And to answer the questions about lose intercooler or boost leak issues everything checks out good on that front.
I do believe it will be a fuel delivery issue with the pump and I will post the results so people are aware of what to look for prior and after.
