perfect comparison for how it will feel
If you have ever driven a WRX (not STi) with heavy HP mods, the new TRE gears will make the EVO fell very similar to that. I just looked up a "speed in each gear" thread on www.clubwrx.net and it had this information. At 7,500 RPM in each gear your speed would be as follows:
Gear..................WRX................EVO with TRE gears
1........................42....................... ..51
2.........................74...................... ...76
3.........................105..................... .105
4.........................148..................... ..144
5.........................195..................... ...205

HItman, just look at the MPH where the shift points will be moved to, and you will get an idea of how "frantic" things will be. One of the nice side-effects of the taller final drive should also be noticeably improved gas-mileage.

I got geeky today and looked up all the info for the WRX and STi transmissions as well as tire size to figure out tire diameter for the calculation spread sheet. As you can see on this chart comparing the WRX and STi transmissions, the STi transmission basicly takes the 5 speed WRX transmissions 3rd gear and splits it into two gears. The EVO MR 6 speed fixes the gap between 4th and 5th that exists in the EVO 5 speed transmissions, but the Subaru 6 speed seems to be there just so they can say they have a six speed. I see no advantage to spliting the 3rd gear into two seperate gears that are so close together like that. And in fact this results in the STi's having to make an extra shift in the 1/4 mile.
Let me know your thoughts,

This is for the gearing, the billet CNC machined center diff cap w/ Torrington bearing and the machine work for the transmission case.

i'm doing a MR tranny swap into my evo 8.
do you have the final drive done for the MR yet. i am sending you my t-case early this week along with the quaife.
would such an aggresive final drive be a good thing in an MR? first gear in the MR is taller than the 8 to begin with...?

I should have gotten this with my tranny
Oh well.. I didnt think about it at the time. To fill up my full second gear or third gear takes less than three seconds and I am not even at that high boost. My problem with my track times is all in my shifting from 1-2 and 2-3. The car just does not seem to want to shift that high RPM's. I am going to screw around with it some more and see if I can get it to shift better.
For some reason I can cut a 1.806 60' but only get 87.31 MPH in the 1/8th... the car pulls pretty good after that resulting in a 12.38 @118 (Bouncing off the rev limiter a bit before I pass the traps @ 7750 rpm). Once I can hone down my shifting problems and a strange misfire/stutter type problem in 4th I hope I will get close to a mid 11 at the same boost level.

So I can just get the final drive when the time comes without the rest of the gearing redone?
