Stiff gear box after clutch install

hello,
ok so i got my clutch(act) installed about two weeks ago from srt motorsports. when i got my car back the car runs fine and the clutch holds up very good. the only problem is the gear box is really stiff. what i mean is it's really hard to put the stick in first gear and especially hard to put the gear into reverse. (i now put my stick in reverse before turning the car on to back out) i was just wondering if this was normal or if anyone knew what the problem was.
thanks

if you didn't adjust the clutch cable, the clutch may be slightly engaged as you change gears... maybe, i haven't had that problem ever, weird

Did you break it in properly? Sounds like you warped your disc. Before all that though, try adjusting your clutch pedal, it makes a HUGE difference. See the how to section.

I'm with Mark. Especially since you have trouble getting it into reverse. Is it equally troublesome with the engine off as it is when running?

More and more people are reporting these same symptoms after clutch installs... I wonder what is happening here?

I'm curious to see this as well. I got 30k on the stocker and although it doesn't show any signs of giving up... I'm starting to do my homework.

It could be as simple as a proper pedal adjustment. I would recommend taking it back to the shop who did the install so that they are aware of the issue.

Could be pedal adjustment, wrong fluids swapped in during the install, not enough fluid swapped in during the install, or a combination of all of the above. Get your pedal adjusted & put in some stock tranny gear oil, or GM Sychromesh, or something like that (avoid the slippery full synthetics) and you should be OK.

WORKS encountered a faulty throwout bearing as the cause for this in one instance. It turned out the groove for the snap ring was too deep. This meant the clutch fork had to move further than normal before the assembly got a solid hold of the pressure plate. By this time, the excessive play had taken away a majority of the travel needed to properly disengage the clutch. Despite any sort of adjustment (even going outside of spec), it still resulted in the clutch dragging with the pedal fully depressed.

ok, so i took my car to the shop and found out that the most likely problem with the stiff clutch was with the tranny fluid. yeah...none of the tranny fluid was changed so i'm hoping that's the problem.
should i go with penzoil synchromesh, bg synchroshift, or the redline products.
thanks

I've had great luck with GM Synchromesh from the GM dealer. Really smoothed out the shifts. If the fluid level is the same in your gearbox as before and it's significantly worse than when you had your old clutch I would look at adjusting the pedal engagement as well (new fluids never hurt though so long as it's the right stuff). Also, with a new clutch you need to remember to stomp it through the floorboard even with a properly engaging/disengaging clutch. You might have gotten used to a higher engagement point as your old clutch was worn down.

Good Luck!

I used the GM Syncromesh for a while and it was ok, I then switched to BG Syncromesh and it was a huge improvement in shift action and reduced tranny noise.
