Question Issues with the B&M short shifter...

I have had my B&M short shifter (non adj.) for a while now, and I always felt like the forward gears (1,3,5) were spongy. Well my concerns were true when I had a trans. specialist test drive my car. He felt the same thing. My back gears (2,4) slide all the way in, no spongy feeling, solid.

He suggested that I return to stock. I most likely will go that direction unless anyone has a cure for this. Will shifter bushing help this? My only shifting mods are a stainless steel line and the short throw.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

It almost sound like it's the linkage on top of the tranny that may have a loose cable-end or something that's giving it that feeling. Probably the side-to-side cable-end.

I doubt it's the shifter itself.

Check the linkage.

i have the b&m short shifter, but i haven't had anyproblems. i replaced the underhood bushings with the 2pc brass kit from lancershop.com, and also put in a set of 8pc poly stiff shifter bushings

Take some sand paper to the retaining upper cup and then lube the hell out of the cup and shifter ball. That'll take care of it. Slam away... I also recommend changing your fluid to Penz Synchromesh...

did you choose the 45% reduction? if so, did you make sure you cut enough off of the shifter base so the cable has clearance?

these were a great help when i installed mine... https://www.evolutionm.net/features/...mfeatures/42/2

I have the original shifter that doesn't adjust.

I'm will check the clearance on the shifter base. If there isn't enough I will cut or sand it down.

I just had the trans. built so it might be the linkage like Mike was suggesting. I want to cover all my bases.

Thanks for the help guys!
