They swore to me that in the auto show, nobody sat in it, it was corded off and was just there to look at.
LIARS!!!!!

it's not actually beating on it.
but to rev up to seal the head gasket as well as using the heat friction to close off any micro pours in the cylinder.
that's what I heard and some people swear by it.
me? I don't beat on my car, but I try my best to vary the rpm as much as possible when I get a new car, and I do rev up high once or twice on 1rd gear and 3th gear during the break in.

Definitely keep us posted on what they say is the "cause". My car has 3400 on it now and has a noise that they keep telling me is normal!!??? (Check out my thread) I wonder if there is an issue with the MR trannies that they don't know about yet.

You need to take you car to Buschur... Mitsu has no clue as to what Buschur has done for your car. He'd be the one to ask.
Raybaer-
The 1st time I noticed the noise was right after picking up the car from Buscher's shop. I immediately went back and had Dave's brother drive the car, and he said it sounded normal to him. That is when the car was taken back to Mitsubishi and everyone agreed that something was initially wrong. Take a look at my thread the whole ordeal is there. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=145688
I have completely taken Buscher out of the equation (after investigating all possibilities). The work done by them has no way of affecting the drivetrain (except maybe the exhaust hitting something) and that was addressed by removing the new exhaust and installing the old one back on, and the noise continued.
It's the mysterious mystery noise.

Just as side note. The 600 mile break-in is not for the engine but for the clutch and break pads. ( more the clutch though) You can not breakin an engine with synthetic oil. The rings will never seat properly. Mitsu breaks in the engines on an engine dyno with Regular oil then drains and fills it up with the synthetic oil. So you must break in the new engine with reg oil since they are not giving you the long block but only the short block. Good Luck.

same exact thing I did...
I hope mitsu's giving u a new block and cover any rental fees.
I should be getting the car back tomorrow, they needed to overnight some gaskette that didn't come in the kit.
From as best as I can tell, the've replaced the block, replaced the oil pump, flushed the oil cooler and lines, cleaned and rebuilt the head, and put everything back together just the way it was before.
We'll find out for sure when I get her back.
I tell you what, it's a freaky sight to see your 1 month old car with the hood on the roof, parts EVERYWHERE, and an ominous gaping hole where the engine should be.
I just hope that tech got everything right.
