I just noticed this yesterday. As my Evo gets up to 6K RPM's, there is a loud but short squeeking sound coming from somewhere in the engine bay (I can't really isolate it sitting in the car). It always seems to happen in the 5.5-6K range, and it's short, lasts about a half second. Whether I stay at 6K, or rev higher or go lower, the sound won't happen again until I go back up to 6K again. Could this be an air leak somewhere? Something else??
