Over filling oil

What is the worst case and best case scenario for overfilled oil? Should I drain it immediately, or is there an overflow that will just leak out?

There really is no "best case scenerio" for over filling your oil. Do you like to see oil comming out of your exhaust?

No, There is very light oil smoke coming from under the hood, almost unnoticable.

it's never good to over fill past the hash marks, lot's of reason's for this. none are good, but just fix it as soon as you can.

vague answers suck, give me some reasons, so that others might look up this post and actually get good info.

If the oil level is too high if will cause the oil to get whipped into a froth of foam and lubrication will suffer. I wouldn't worry too much about it if you are a titch over.

you could lock up the engine. if too much is in there. you could be create a leak past the rings. oil gets in the cylinders. BAD

Another reason is that the more oil you have in the car the more you have to cool off and the hotter your car will run, the less you have(or with in the designated level) the easier it is to keep the engine cool. More is not always better. Do you really want oil leakin all over your drive way.

It's worse to over fill than run low. If you've over filled, just drain a bit and recheck until it's dead on
