Coolant bypass on throttle body?

I was doing some normal routine maintenance on my EVO today but after looking at things I had a random thought and was wondering if it has been tried or not. After studying the throttle body on its own I noticed there is a coolant input and output, and coolant is HOT. Why would I want to heat the air back up going through the throttle body if I am trying to get it colder? Has anyone bypassed the coolant input and output on the throttle body and gotten any results or ill affects?

I am sure this is something I can tune out running a standalone but I was just looking for others input/experience if it has even been tried. I do realize this is probably there to help warm up the air on cold days but in the summer time I would think it would be nice to help out the air just a little bit. I wouldn't suspect it to be used for anything else? The coolant lines are easy to get too and up high so changing should be too bad of a job.

Thanks for you input in advance.

Mine has been bypassed since I got the car in 2003... no need for "warm up" in Texas. I've not experience any idle issues.

How did you do it Zeus? What parts did you need? How much work is it?

It doesn't look to be much work at all and I feel the same way you do Zeus. Really no need for a warmup especially in the summer time.

If you know the size of fitting to bypass it off the top of your head let me know. I would like to give it a shot. You should be able to change it out in very little time. It would pretty much be a close to a free mod just wondering how much it would really help. Guess there is only one way to see

How would you bypass it though? Just run a hose from the in to the out and cap off the line that was coming in the the TB?

It's very common in DSM's. Just find the right size block off caps and make sure they are tight. I would give you the size, but I don't know it off hand.

You should just be able to connect the in and out lines together using a fitting and capping off the throttle body in and out. there for you can put it back if need be.

I used a piece of hose to completely replace the two hoses. I then used vacuum caps to seal the throttle body nipples. Swap the lower connection really quick as it is below the head and the coolant will run out rather quickly.

/\ If I remember correctly...

what sort of fitting could you get to connect the 2 hoses together that would withstand the coolant temps?

A copper or metal fitting with the ends flanged or bubbled with clamps at the end just as the metal fittings are off of the throttle body. I will post what I end up using and where I got the parts. Tomarrow I will go look for parts.

Might just be easier to use Zeus's method. Just purchase an extra peice of hose and something to cap off the metal throttle body in and out lines.

Not to mention it just looks "cleaner". You have to really pay attention to tell I really did anything as I routed the line low.

i did this on my Spec-V when i moved to AZ to help beat the heat. Maybe it would be helpful on the Lan-Evo as well...
