Gauges question

My MR came with the factory triple gauge cluster. It shows voltage, temperature and boost. Now, I've forgottent what the temperature shows... Is it engine oil temps? Or maybe transmission oil temps? I cannot remember if I ever knew that for sure and I cannot find that info anywhere.... I'd appreciate some help from the cognoscenti...

Along the same theme, I noticed when I first got the car and during the first months of ownership (Nov '04 to June '05) that temp gauge rarely moved from the very lowest readings. However, during the last couple of very hot months, the gauge shows temps nearly up to the halfway mark of the gauge (can't remember the values and I'm too lazy to go out and look ) Anyway, any thoughts on those temps? What have other ppl observed along these lines?

Thanks in advance

It's oil temperature. In the warmer months, mine will get up to about 90 C at the hottest, usually, it sits around 70-80 C. (If I'm remembering the numbers correctly)

If you do some more "spirited" driving, you can probably get it up higher.

I know that the gauge does not show coolant temperature. I know it's an oil temp gauge I guess it makes sense that it's the engine oil temp.... I don't know why but I thought it was the tranny oil temp or the transfer case oil temp...... I guess I need to look and see just what temps I'm running now. The weather has been murderously hot here in Atlanta. I'm not surprised to see the gauge needle move up...... Anyway, the Mobil 1 synth oil is supposed to be good for high temps and 90 degree C hardly seems hot enough to cause problems........

Sorry, I don't understand... Why would I need "a new tool" to change the oil? Surely the temp sensor is not screwed onto the oil filter.... I've seen the filter and it has no place for the temp sensor (actually it's exactly the same filter as the '03 GSR I had before).....

Sure, I'd like to have the EGT gauge and the Greddy Boost gauge looks pretty good, but there is something to be said for the completely stock look too

Actually, the poll is not very well set up and will naturally bias the answers to the after market side. Out of the 4 multiple choice questions only one allows you to choose the OEM while the other three go from bad to worse...... If that is not a loaded poll, I don't know what would be.

Anyway, there is another issue with the poll. Nowhere is asked in what way the OEM is better, as good or not as good as the aftermarket stuff. Are we talking aesthetics? functionality? accuracy? useability? price? ............ Surely you cannot compare a multiple function, large, beautifully designed $300+ boost gauge to the simple yet accurate OEM gauge.... As for the oil temp and voltage gauges, I cannot see any aftermarket stuff being any "better" (whatever that means) that the OEM gauges. Also, unless you spend a ton of money and time, your aesthetic results are not going to be as good, let alone better than the factory stuff. I'd say if the lighting of the OEM gauges was better, the package would be hard to improve given the space available. The lighting of those gauges is pretty cheesy though.....

looks like i have to start another poll (non-loaded) to show that aftermarket gauges are better than oem
the term "better" can be used for whatever the person reading the poll feels
aesthetics? functionality? accuracy? useability? price?

what i was trying to get across to warr. that the oem , imo, gauges are "junk" compared to the a multiple function, large, beautifully designed $300+ boost gauge to the simple yet accurate OEM gauge. and from the poll it shows that the majority agree. i am sure the oem gauges are good, but not as good as an aftermarket gauge

how would you question the poll so that its "not loaded" as you call it?
