What do I tweak after adding intake?

I have an 03 EVO with catless TBE and XEDE computer.

I just purchase a BR intake pipe and filter. (Not strictly for performance but rather to amplify the sound of the turbo)

My question is....what normally needs to be done to bring the car back into "tune" after adding an intake?

Any and all suggestions welcomed!

Thanks in advance,
JJ

I would think that it may effect your Xede. Have you tried searching the Vishnu forum? Intakes have always been an issue there.

Unfortuneately....the XEDE forum doesn't have many tuners in it.
I just need a place to start or at least a plan of attack for tuning this thing.
When how does a flash for an intake differ from a flash for the stock box?

I have an 03 evo and I once had a RMR open cone style intake. Unfortunately I didn't have an SAFC or flash. After about every 1500 miles I was getting a P0300 code which was driving me nuts....about 3months ago I reinstalled the stock intake and haven't had a P0300 code since. In fact the car seems to pull better and run smoother w/the stock box. I highly recomend tuning your ECU to your mods.

It's been my experience with mine, and my customer's cars that the MAF pipe makes more of a difference than the Filter/Air Box when it comes to MAF misreadings. Back to back tests showed that just at idle, an OE tune would idle 272/272 cams and a BR filter. However, couple that with an aftermarket MAF pipe, and the car would fall on it's face. Put just the OE MAF pipe back on, and the car would idle fine. I personally however, am not fond of running the Xede without a custom flash underneath. I had all kinds of problems/codes, etc. until I had Turbo Trix lay down a custom flash under the Xede. Now, no codes, no drivability issues.

I'm no "tuner" though...

FWIW, Vishnu states that no intake is better than stock. It's the only intake I've seen that really has a cold air snorkel. Most intakes seem to suck air from the hot engine compartment.

only reason i have an aftermarket intake is so i could run a upper IC pipe for the BOV, since my stocker didn't seem to hold boost.

also, needed to tap in for meth. But, im thinking of trading my Upper IC kit for a buschur kit that will work with the stock air box.

I'm not ripping on the XEDE crowd....I'm just saying most people load a file and call it good....others pay Shiv to custom tune their car. I'm sure you know what I'm saying.

I am using a WB and OBD-II logger to read LTFT's, timing, ect..... I just want to know what values will change with the addition of the intake pipe and filter then make the required changes to bring them back into spec.

I'm sure just slapping these on a stock tune will induce oddities. I am willing to take a swing at correcting them.

If the power loss is really that noticable....(doubtful)...on race days I'll just add the intake-swap to the list along with race brakes and race wheels.

My point was depending on your setup, you may not see as much of an issue as you think... I ran my findings and hypothesis by Vishnu... I was lead to believe by the reply that they were not going to dispute, nor investigate my findings.

My mistake...it appeared that you were ripping on that forum b/c they didnt give you the answer that you wanted to hear (to stick with the stock airbox).

However, I will disagree and say there are VERY knowledgible people in that forum...and them telling you to stick with the stock airbox is from experience and knowledge...as you can see from this thread.

I think the biggest problem is that it will make your afr's erratic and nearly impossible to tune out (unpredictable)...im sure it can be done with LOTS of time and pulls, but the fact is the stock airbox is much smoother and more consistant

But good luck tuning the car with the intake

I know that stock is best for drivability and power. Not disputing that.

I just want my EVO to sound like a 747 as did my GSX with intake.

Well, that's just dumb.

Here we go......

Some of you have a very distorted perspective of what you want out of your car.

I love my EVO and I track the hell out of it (road races, lapping days, autocrosses).....but 95% of my time is spent just twirling around town....during that time I enjoy hearing the turbo sing. Sure you can hear it at WOT with the stock box but it doesn't sound anywhere near as sweet as it does with an intake.

So for me to have what "I" want all I have to do is tune a little. Whoopty do! I dont see the problem. Personally I dont think its gonna rob any power at all but I dont feel like getting into a pyssing contest with anyone.
