Installing Just a Clutch Disc....

Is this just a waste of time or would this be worth it? right now i have an RRE no name clutch and was considering putting an ACT disc in it... the no name disc is shot @ 20k miles... mostly daily driving.....

IMO if you already there, might as well replace everything, remember half the cost is installing.

I know more than a few shady mechanics who have reused pressure plates and got away with it.

Please go with the pressure plate and clutch kit.
New Throw out bearing. Don't skimp.
It will not be worth it if you do.
My 2 cents

I just replace my clutch and did the math on the cost per mile-

Would you believe that the highest per mile cost for the Evo is tires?

Clutch: $1200 divided by 15,000 miles = 8 cents per mile.

Advans: $1100 divided by 8,000 miles = 14 cents per mile.

In your case, the RRE was even cheaper per mile, as it lasted longer.

Something to think about.

if you think it suck that your clutch went out with only 20k. when you do the short cut on the clutch it will not last. if you have it apart do it all or dont waste your money.

I wouldn't mix and match parts from different clutches. There's a possibility that the pressure plates could be designed for different disc thicknesses. Some DSMers, back in the day, tried to use OE pressure plates on their ACT clutches and found out the hard way that the ACT discs were a little thinner (around .010" IRC). Their clutches would never fully disengage.

rburris, if you add the cost of gas to that, as well as small dollar stuff like fluids and brakes it's getting to be pretty costly IMO. Makes me want to drive a POS and save my evo for when I feel like a treat.

I don't know if I would recommend what you are proposing without testing the pressure plate, but there should no problem with compatablity.
