Question "Service Engine Light" on at 20,000??

Ok,

I just hit 20,000 miles on my car and right then the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Is this normal. I thought I read about this but don't quite remember. Can I reset the light myself or do I need to take it into Mitsubishi and have them do it. Wondering if I disconnected the positive terminal on the battery that this may do it.

Any words of advise greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

It means you have a problem -- it is not supposed to come on @ 20k mile intervals.

I'd get it checked out.

Pull the code out and post it up, any local autozone does it for free.

Well, I took the positive terminal off for about 15 minutes and then rehooked it up. Light is off and I've driven about 25 miles and no light yet. It may pop back on so if it does, I'll just take it to Autozone to get it checked.

Thanks for the feedback.

reseting the code makes the light go away, it doesn't make the problem go away. you should of pulled it.

It's probably a misfire. I got the same thing and when they brought it up on the computer they said "How fast were you going when this happened" my reply of course was "Not fast really", they're reply after that was. . "somewhere around 105mph?"

in order for your car to set a code it has to see the same problem more than once, the computer will also take a "picture" of the parameters EVERYTHING going on at the time the O2 the, throttle pos, the wheel speed, the vehicle speed, even if you air is on at the time. the code you set is probally still in the computer but you may have gotten rid of your way of seeing the code b/c you turned off the MIL (malfunction indcater light) the autozone scantools are not the best they basicly scan and erase they dont read ino the problem, o sorry, i just kept typing, ill stop now
