Aftermarket Header Q's

For people who have installed a new header alone, after the basics mods have been installed, i.e. 3" turboback w/HFC or test pipe for example.

What rpm are you achieving 1.4 or 20 lbs of boost in 3rd gear on a stock turbo? Please note if your running a 9.8 or 10.5 turbine housing.

My 03' stock made 1.4 bar @ 3,200 rpm, with the 3" tb w/hfc made 1.4 bar @ 2,800 rpm. I have read that headers supposedly decrease spool rpm anywhere beween -300/-500.

Are there people out there getting 1.4 bar boost @ 2,300-2,500 rpm with a 9.8 inconel wheeled turbo?

If so, which brand header?

Could you please describe your findings?

Would you recomend this mod?

Do hear more noise from the header?

Cost/Vendor of header purchase.

I know there are lots of threads that mention such findings, but a majority of the people installed other mods @ the same time which make it difficult to truely reveal the benefits of a aftermarket header.

Thanks

There is a dyno sheet from a header install. This is the best looking header I have seen for the Evo yet, and also one of the more expensive. However, in the graphs you can somewhat see when the turbo comes to life. It may be a few hundered RPM quicker.

From my past experiences headers make power, but thats on ZZ4, LT4, and LS1 engines. As for turbos, I believe they do help spool up times, and syncing of the firing cyclinders.

For noise - well on NA cars headers usually increase sound, but on ours with the turbo in the way, I dont think that it will be that much louder.

Hope that helps you get started with your header mod.

And remember that the header did that with have worse thermal efficiency. (cast headers hold heat better which aids in spool up) With that header with wrapping or thermal coating the spool would be even better and power gains would increase as well.
