I saw number 4 suggested here. My logic suggests it will be the cylinder that naturally gets the most air...so is it really number 4?
Yes, its number 4. Think about it, air rushes into the intake manifold, and hits the back of the manifold, closest to the 4th cylinder which is the first exit point. I've heard that its #4 from a rally guy in australia as well. Supras have something similar in their #6 cylinders.

so i could probably buy the tanabe downpipe and use the bung to install an O2 sensor instead of an EGT? or am i better off just buying a downpipe and have an O2 sensor bung welded to my liking?

Oh...and you would need to have an O2 bung installed either way b/c the EGT bung is smaller than the O2 (Unless they made it with an O2 and installed a reducer you could remove).

You might as well just buy any other good DP and have it welded...unless you just *really* like the Tanabe pipe.

Excellent point as well!

I would think that the bung in the tanabe downpipe, is meant for an 02 sensor. As far as tapping for an EGT, it would have to be on the exhaust manifold itself. The location at the downpipe isn't practical, as the temperature of the exhaust gases will drop significantly compared to a closer location such as the manifold.

Usually when you buy wideband kits, it will include a mild steel bung, that can be welded on to the downpipe. Then its just a matter of placing it appropriately on the downpipe. Optimal positioning would be 12 o'clock having the sensor projecting downwards.
