Question Turbo Timer

The Evo is going to be my first turbo car, and I figure the most basic upgrade, and probably one of the first ones I'll want is a turbo timer.

I'll take the heat and admit it - I'm a newbie when it comes to aftermarket modifications, regardless of how big or how small they are. I'm just wondering, are there Evo specific turbo timers or can any of them work on any turbo car? Also, do turbo timers void warranty? A turbo timer seems like a pretty crucial thing to have on a turbo car...

And lastly, what turbo timers do you guys recommend, or is there generally no way to really mess up on one? I would prefer smaller the better, I don't like to have a cluttered dash/cockpit, especially if I plan on getting other gauge clusters (like a boost controller, which I may also need a crash course on later!) Thanks!

I disagree. I think TT's are a waste of money. Just let the car idle down for a minute or finish listening to that song or whatever. Also, very slow school zone type driving can be counted as idle down time too.

Save your money and spend it on synthetic oil, a fuel pressure gauge and a 3" exhaust, or slap a FP Green or a BR20G on her. That's what I wanna see.

Who's gonna be first?!

I think you guys should draw straws to see!

Well I did my research and I think I'm going to end up getting a TT. Whether or not they're really necessary is up to debate but just the fact that I'm a student now and I still do a lot of short driving to classes. I don't know how much of an impact that will have, since I'll be doing a lot of short distance driving of no more than 5 minutes at a time during the weekdays. Luckily there are some pretty fun country roads around here to take the car for a joyride on the weekends, all under control of course. After all, pushing the limit of my '87 Volvo wasn't particularly difficult and this is something completely different, and getting to know the car will be a slow process.

I think having a TT is kind of like buying a "peace of mind" sort of thing, and it's always a plus when I'm late for classes I can just set the TT and make a run for it I mean, the GReddy one is only like what, $80-$90, and maybe another $20 or so for a pretty HKS one with all the neat timers. Unnecessary? Possibly. Nice to have? Sure, I'll take one!

Well Turbo TImers are not really necessary but its a good start to add some things to the inside of your evo, I would get a boost Controller before that if you want something that is going to help.

IMHO, I think Turbo Timers are worth it. Sure you can sit there and wait to let the motor and turbo cool off but sometimes your driving habits can be sometimes be unpredictable. Some days, you like doing WOT and sometimes you just cruise. The good thing is, you can turn off the timer if you think it doesn't need the extra minutes of cooling and I still think that it can be beneficial on certain days.

I kinda like this new version of turbo timer from Greddy. Smaller than the previous one.

I have a TT and don't really use it. I just sit in my car for like 30 seconds after parking. No biggie.
Some TT's do have a boost gauge feature which is pretty cool. It's like getting 2 mods in one.

A turbo timer is just another thing a theif will see and want to break into your car and get. It's totally a waste. I had one that I got back when I was "cool". It got stolen and now I realized I don't want to be "cool" anymore so I'm not getting another one.

But if you want one don't worry about functionality, just get a silver one with a blue display because it is a proven fact that chicks and kids who wear visors are attracted to that combination and cannot look away unless you slap them. It's really quite remarkable.
