tubular header question

I am looking into buying the borla header, I was wondering if it would help keep it from cracking if I wrapped the headers because it will be daily driven, rain or shine.

They probably offer the option of jet hot coating it before it goes out. I think that helps prevent it from cracking. I am thinking of getting one too. Pretty pricey though. But you have to pay to play.

Wrapping it will probably make it crack faster.

So does heat, and that's a big part of what makes it crack; hotter metal is weaker metal.

it has a warantee if hta tmakes you feel better hahaha you'd have to get it braced... but bracing is complicated... cuz you have to account for expansion

I'd have to agree in most cases, actually. Unless you're building your own header for a specific setup AND know how to pulse-tune an exhaust system, you're not likely to gain more than a little from a header. (Sometimes you get lucky at the primary header length is juuuust right for your cams, turbocharger, exhaust system, and intake manifold. But they all have to be tuned together to reap full benefit. Even large changes in EGT can throw off the tuning.)

I'd like to see someone invest in a hydro-formed exhaust manifold to adapt the 4g63 to the more common Garrett turbine inlets. The only HUGE problem with hydroforming is the relatively high cost per manifold when the production numbers are low; you'd need a huge market-base to do it in a cost-effective manner.

Anyone wanna pay me $5,000 to design a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold for a common setup? No? Didn't think so.
