ok guys...well i sent my Tcase to Jon at TRE ( teamrip.com ) to have the ralliart lsd put in since i broke two stock diffs in a week. Anyway everything looked "ok" to the visible eye. THANK GOODNESS i didn't just go off of that and toss in a quaife or ralliart lsd without sending it to a expert. Needless to say i got slightly rolled gears that are cracked and damaged. I think i have it under control now parts wise thank goodness and so we should be ok. I am going to get this spare one too him and have him work his magic. The things this guy knows are insane!! He puts me under the table in regards to automotive knowledge and i am not a slouch . Anyway i already told Jon i am going to beat this car hard once broken in and he says i am free too do so. If i break it i am sure i will be one of the first. I love the professionalism Jon and tre have .... they are some of the smartest and best in the industry.
Thanks guys !!

on to the pics!

no your not understanding...i did a front ralliart LSD from them . If you look at pics 10 and 11 you will see the teeth sheered off the open front diff. The other stuff is the ring and pinion from inside the transfercase also. These were inspected by eye and found to be ok but once the experts at TRE got a hold of them it was found otherwise. Makes me wonder how many people toss new diffs in without using the 100s of thousands of dollars of equipment that is really needed to find problems like this. I know i was one of them...i almost tossed a new diff in with seals and called it a day. LIttle did i know that there were cracks throughout the ring and pinion. My point to this is to inform everyone how important it is to let the proper people and tools for the job have at a task like this. You wouldn't send your gardener or pruner to cut your hair....well maybe you could but you get the idea....haha.
If this was left alone obviosly a very expensive issue would have came up not too far down the road likely again when i was racing it....would have caused a TON of problems. I guess just get them looked at and sent out ...its a small extra amount of $ to have that piece of mind. Then all the other benefits you get like them fitting everything up to perfect specs and tollerances which keeps from play developing or being there and that is what causes shock loads and issues with parts that honestly are designed great from the factory (besides the front open diff junk).

i had the pleasure of having a long conversation with jon.. he is one of the most knowledgeable guys ive talked to. My tre built tranny is being mailed back to me on tuesday. I cant wait to see how great this tranny will shift and hold up to the abuse. T.R.E. is the way to go for evo drive train repair.

it almost looks like it was "set up" wrong who did it the first time?? i have done a lot of work on trannys and diffs in my day (semis, heavy duty, earth moving equipment etc.) (only a few automotive) and i never saw the top of the teeth get broke like that

That is a factory Tcase ,that is right....the transfer cases and trannies on our factory evo's aren't setup correctly and that is the biggest reason everyone is having issues. That is why a expert can put it back together with super tight tollerances and it lasts 5 times at long.

Jon is awesome. I sent my Tcase into him because it was making awful, terrible griding noise. I swore the front diff was done for, but when Jon took it apart he found that it was the ring and pinion gears had began to show some wear. Well he put it back together as said above with tight tolerances and threw in some forged spider gears and it has been absolutely beautiful since then. The great thing is that he could have easily advised me that i needed to replace the ring and pinion (expensive!), but he didn't because he felt like it was just a tolerance/lubrication issue and that it still had some life in it. Very professional, very knowledgable individual.

Thats the story of my life

I too rationalized the upgrade for the ralliart LSD and went for it
After taking to Jon, stock gear materials and torque capacity (number of gears) would eventually lead to failure (some actually have really high pwr number and are doing fine, go figure)....although i did not have failure at this point of my street racing career, the benifits outweighted the cost to me.....they were a better torque transfer to the gears (IOW instead of two gears at a time bearing the forces, id have 4 gears taking the forces) and the benefits of having an lsd up front during cornering and launch scenarios. IMO

I had the same issue your having evodave. I broke my ring and pinion and my front diff. I thought the same thing at first i looked over everything in the t - case and thought for sure it was only the front diff until Jon at TRE called me and sent me pictures of the ring and pinion with the stress cracks in it. Jon is very professional is one of the best in the business. Now I have the ralliart t-case and this thing is awesome its gets off the line amazingly. Evodave you made a very good investment. Good luck getting into the 10's.
