Hello!!
Finally! We can discuss the results of the Super Four Challenge we were involved in months ago!
Car and Driver, the November issue is on the news stands now. The show is also going to be on TV this weekend. Saturday at 12:30 pm and Sunday at 11:30 am, on Spike, that's 10-8 and 10-9.
We placed fourth at this event. We were asked to keep the results quiet until the magazine came out.
Honestly we were very proud of how we did and looking back on the event, even during the event, we knew the killer of our car was the lack of ABS.
The HKS car also did not have ABS but had a lot more tire on the ground and one of the best drivers in the world behind the wheel.
Robert Fuller piloted our car, he gets no mention in the magazine, sorry Robert. He did an excellent job of driving, the stopping killed us though.
Congrats to HKS for their well deserved #1 spot.
Also very proud of the fact we went into this build with a "budget" in mind. The car could have been entered on the stock shortblock and cylinder head and had the same results. There was no extra power in the shortblock build or head work at the power level the car is at. We did it out of fear of something failing during the event. Durability.
The car ran flawlessly and we did receive a 4 star rating for driveability, our clutch was too aggressive for most of the drivers and that kept us from getting the 5 stars. (I read their notes in the notebook they kept in our car-haha, I'm sneaky like that)
Our best 0-60 and 1/4 mile times were not on the cars fastest runs, as stated in the magazine also.
The RS had a best 0-60 mph run of 3.48 seconds and a best 1/4 mile of 11.96 at 115.7 mph. Had the Neova tires we are running now been available when WE made OUR tire purchase of the approved tires those times would have been improved by a fairly large margin. The RS has almost an additional 8" of rubber on the ground now than it did at the C&D event. (Last night it ran a 1.58 60' time on these tires at the dragstip)
VERY good event. Extremely good people there. I'd like to be able to do a few of these type events per year and just quite drag racing. The C&D staff was top notch and so were the competitors. There wasn't that "My dick is bigger than yours" going on like you get when just competing against a bunch of EVO guys drag racing.
We came in with a total build cost of $52,084. This cost was $39,831 less than the STi that placed 5th, $43,099 less than the 3rd place Elise, $20,570 less than the 2nd place Elise and $34,704 less than the 1st place EVO.
Looking at those numbers it makes me very proud of how we did and the choices that were made for the car.
Now that we have attended one of these events if ever invited back I know what to change. I think the car could be built for atleast $8,000 less.
We'd go in with a stock engine/head and transmission in the car. This alone drops the build cost $8550.
We'd add our 20G turbo, maybe a GT3071 and put ABS on the car.
That car would dominate with the right driver behind the wheel. Maybe next year HKS and myself can go half on their driver!! Car and Driver commented that the most important part of their car was the driver, Nobuteru. The guy was pure bad ***! He had never driven the car before the day of the event. Each run he got faster.
Let the questions and comments come. Be glad to answer them.

got the mag two days ago and yeah it was nice that the rs performed well.
what was the problem with 4sd fed lotus? C/D said they(the crew) were not friendly? I thought they did a force fed evo that was faster than that lotus. btw they should not have included the 1997 toyota tacoma and instead find another tuner car.

please clerify: will this be on the C&D show on Spike TV? or another show on Spike TV?
I believe it is the C&D show on Spike.
I had not trouble with the Forced Fed crew, very nice guys, we got along great and have actually been doing business with them since the event. Not sure what happened.

wow congrats! i'll make sure to watch it this weekend.
so do you feel it was the lack of ABS or the lack of rubber to the road that hindered your braking performance, reading your post it seems like it still may be up in the air.
