Oh Ya,started every once and a while when backing up in morning when car was new,now 2 yrs later it does it almost every time I back out of driveway in A.M. and is most definitly coming from rear diff.,not from axles.Guess I will have to buy a new HOUSE that I dont have to BACK out of the driveway and I am sure the noise will go away

I thought I was the only one!! It is a audible "clang" like a hammer hitting and anvil. I always thought it was odd... Only when I back up.

The clank noise is normal, welcome to AWD. The 2nd gear issue could be a number of things. Maybe it's time to change the tranny fluid .

I guess it all depends on the roll of the dice and how high you tached up the engine when you took your foot off the clutch or how fast/hard you dumped the clutch...

FEI--- don't over clutch. By this I mean don't use a clutch that has some wildly high torque capacity unless you want lots of broken parts. The clutch is suppose to slip before you break parts, similar to how the rev-limiter keeps most of you from scattering the engine.

A better analogy would be like having the drag set way to high on your fishing reel for the line that you are using....

So what do I recommend for torque capacity???

About 500ft.lbs or real close to working torque of the drivetrain. If the clutch only has a torque capacity of 500 or less then failure of any drive train component would be rare and only happen after several fatigue cycles.

What is the working torque of the transmission?

500ft.lbs

Ghost of a chance is 500-750ft.lbs

Ghost of a chance is what gear makers refer to as, "There is a ghost of chance that it'll survive IF the gears don't see impactive shock loading" such as from abusive clutch dumps.

Anything above 750ft.lbs of torque is considered "barrowed time" and it will fail, it's just a question of when....

Summary, choose your clutch wisely.

That's why I kept the stock clutch. Much less chance of breaking drivetrain parts.

I have an 04 Evo I just bought (8k miles) and it has a whine/whistle combo in 1st gear but then goes away when I shift to 2nd.....I thought maybe that was just normal because of the low 1st gear?

Turn your radio up, and the problem will "go away" jk, I think you are hearing the turbo. Normal Trav.
