Thumbs down OEM Tranny Fluid...

Went to my dealership this morning to buy a couple quarts of OEM tranny fluid.

Currently I have Pennzoil Syncromesh in the car but the tranny started getting pretty notchy with just 3000 miles or so on the gear lube. I had gone about 12k or so on the OEM stuff without any problems, so I figured I'd go back to the original fluids.

My dealership says that Mitsubishi won't sell quarts of fluid to customers...the only way I can get it is if I have them change the oil

They said all Mitsu dealerships do this...is this just plain BS or is it actually true? I know I could buy Honda tranny fluid just fine when I used to own a Honda.

How much does the OEM stuff cost?

Is it typical for the Syncromesh to start shearing at just 3000 miles?

You can get gear oil in containers but some dealerships only have it in big drums that they use so yes it is true partly but you may be able to call around to see if another dealership can order it for you.

Yea, usually they only buy in 52 gallon sizes :P

I've noticed with the syncromesh you gotta change that stuff more often.

wait...

1. My friend went to our local dealer looking for Diaqueen...they had it in drums, but they were able to measure out the exact quarts/liters he needed and prorated the price for him for him based on the bulk container we purchase. I think he might had to bring his own jug though.

2. I didn't know Mitsubishi had OEM transmission fluid. I heard they just secretly used Syncromesh off their shelves.

I would not trust them.. I asked them to do a transmission service.. then asked if they used oem diaqueen and they said whats that.? we dont have that? .. simple fix, talk to chris at logic performance and have him ship you the oem fluids.. it will be less then the dealership, and you know your tranny isnt gonna blow up from using inferior liquids.. nothing beats the diaqueen.

I had a hard time finding the Diaqueen gear oil through the dealers. My friend had to haggle a local stealership to get a big can of it. Everytime, previous to that, they would say they do not sell them in can but rather big drums of it.

Don't know about oem trans fluid. I had the stock OEM for about 15K miles..eventualy got notchy. Then went with royal Purple for about 4K miles.. good stuff, less notchy and worked well at a track day. Decided to change the RP out for a reent track day to a Redline concoction my friend made.. and the ride drives near perfect.

I don't think I would go back to oem trans fluid from this point on.
