Using an Air Line filter in Boost Controller line.

My buddy's running an Alcohol kit on his 03 Evo and has been having problems with his boost controllers (corrosion of the ball and spring).

Because he's running a Buschur LICP, he ended up placing the MBC reference at the BOV line. I take it that condensation, or alcohol, or both have gotten into the MBC via the BOV line .

As a solution, I was thinking of running an air line filter, like you find on O2/CO2 tanks and air tool lines to catch the water/alky blowing through. Does this seem like a valid solution? In addition, should I install the filter element in the catch bulb? I think I'll end up working on his car this weekend, so give me your opinions on this solution.

I've posted a reference pic below

Thanks!

Adding a liquid trap I would think would cause some problems especially if it becomes clogged and you run a risk of uncontrolled boost - then your engine goes 'POP'.

It would be easier to just tap the input to the housing as it's recommended so the atomized MeOH/air does not enter the MBC or even worse - WG actuator.

Good point, my MBC, and every one i've ever installed has been tapped to the nipple by the turbine outlet. My buddy's saying that the Buschur LICP eliminates that nipple. Is that true? If so, I guess i should tap into the LICP...

why would you not put a nipple back on the lower? whats the purpose of NOT having one?

that sounds like a vac hose nightmare for the wastgate, ect....

you def can't tap into any boost source that is 'behind' the alky nozzle. is the alky not in between the BOV and the TB? it should be.

The alky nozzle is right before the TB, so definitely after the BOV.

I'm confused about the MBC point...I used the nipple by the turbine outlet, right next to the wastegate actuator nipple. He's claiming that the Buschur LICP eliminates that nipple. I did't pay attention to what pipe the outlet nipple is tapped into...so i dunno if he's just mistaken or if the Buschur pipe really eliminates that tapping point

so. the stock turbine outlet nipple (for Boost Control usage)... is it on the LICP? or on the turbo itself?
