Jun vs.HKS

I'm getting ready to do cams for my MR.I'm trying to find out if the Jun 272 cams are worth the extra $$ over HKS,GSC,Buddy Club.I know you have to do the valve springs and retainers with the Juns but thats not a problem because I'm going to do them anyway.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you are on the stock turbo, I think the JUNs may be a little aggresive. Personally I am going to go with the Tomei 260 Procams...similar duration to the HKS 264s, but higher lift. Talk to someone that knows more than I do, however.

Atlvalet,
Thanks for your input. For right know I'm going with the stock turbo or something similar(WhiteRabbit or 20G).I have thought about those Tomei Pro 260's a lot but I haven't talked to anyone who has experience with them even Z1 Performance(who cant seem to get a group buy on them but have been trying for months).I've called a lot of venders and none recommend the Tomei's for what ever reason except Z1 but they cant even give an approx increase in h.p or t.q.
How soon until you get you 260's.Please let me know how you like them.

Thanks again

The JUN 264 should be ok, but there is not a lot of info on them (from people's feedback, not specs). Both JUN and Tomei use OEM cores, so their camshafts are hollow like the Evos. I think the Pipers may be too. THe HKS, Buddy Club, GSC are not.

I am planning on putting in Tomei cams in the next 3 or 4 months. I'm partly choosing them becuase it's a little different and becuase of the higher lift than the HKS 264s. There are no guarantees, but I think the Tomei's will put up better numbers than the HKS cams (granted, I'll need new springs and retainers).

Your definitely not going to want to go with the JUN 272s. They are for full out race applications. Example - Dynoflash and AMS (775whp) both use JUN 272s.

Well, from talking to the HKS guys on the JDM side, they are very picky with the quality of blanks they are supplied. It's all in the metalurgy and according to HKS there's only one or two cam suppliers that meet their specs, which is one of the reasons why HKS cams tend to be on backorder quite often.
Of course, this info. comes from an HKS rep. so take it with a grain of salt.

THe HKS quality was never in question. For me, it was the fact that they don't use OEM cores. I'm sure their cams are great, they just aren't hollow like the stockers.

I have Jun 272's. I am currently running them on the stock turbo, but not for long. Here's a few things

If you are not running a stand along these cams are not for you. They have very aggressive profiles and ramp rates.

To obtain a set, call Cal or Tom at Gruppe-S, that's where I got mine.

I will say, that even though these are a bit much for the stock turbo, with a good tuner, the car will still pull. I had headwork done while the cams were getting installed and the car absolutely SCREAMS on the top end. If you want gobs of top end power, and can sacrifice a little low end for it, these are an excellent choice.

Are they worth the extra money? That's too subjective to answer unbiasly, but I would say yes. It all depends on your goal for the car.

I think the Jun 264 is probably the best cam out for the evo right now, so yes, it would be great IMHO.
