Problems fitting my ATP GT35R .

Has anyone had problems with the install of an atp gt35r turbo? The shop that is currently installing mine said that they might need to fabricate a spacer because the turbo sits too close to the trans. Is this normal for this kit.

I am useing the ss dnp manifold which I don't think should matter cause it worked fine with the stock turbo.

Also I know people are going to say "you should have went with an AMS kit" etc. But at the time I ordered it I also got an intake mani, fuel rail, injectors, oil catch can, and intercooler so I was limited on how much I could spend. I still needed money for installation too.

One of the reasons I bought the kit is because it can use the stock turbo manifold. Thats one of the reasons the ATP kits cost less cause there is no manifold included. The DNP replaces the stock one. I had mine HPC coated and wanted to keep it.

Why would anyone tell you to get an AMS kick when you just saved yourself over 2k, I dont think there manifold is worth that, I have used several kits and everything said about the ATP has been untrue(personal experience), people have to make up reasons why they got ripped off buying some over priced kit.
Anyway I had no problems installing my ATP kit, its a tight fit but it fits, are you using a reputable installer?
Good Luck....

Yea the place I'm having the work done has built a lot of wrx's,sti's and audi's and they have been doing the work on my car ever since I got it back in 2003 so I trust them. Most people in my area go to AMS but I'm like only a few miles from GRD. Thats who is doing the work. They do great work and I have never had any problems with them.

Agreed. It's a tight fit, but fits fine. It might be a matter of clocking the turbo correctly. I know that when you receive the turbo kit from ATP, the kit is close but not exact. You may need to loosen the (6) 1/2" bolts on the compressor housing and adjust it so that it fits.

the ATP kit was prob over 2k, around 2200$ or so and the DNP manifold is like 550-600. thast about 2800$ the AMS kit is 4400$ thats 1600$, not 2000$ and the AMS kit fits no problem, comes with a fan, downpipe, intake pipe. It also consistently makes huge #'s and has no flow issues in the exhaust manifold like the ATP does.

I dont even sell the AMS kits nor do I have one, but the AMS kit is not overpriced. Its complete and warrantied and works and has been proven time and time again. A DNP manifold with a ATP based 35R is not making 600 whp on 30 psi. it wont flow the amount of exhaust required.

Let me correct you, An ATP kit doesnt come with a dnp header, nor is there any benefits in using one.
Look at my sig, my car made that with a 3071 atp kit, full boost by 3600-3700.
I purchased my ATP kit for $2100, that is $2300 in saving.
The stock header is not restrictive, unless your running huge amounts of WHP, more than a stock motor could handle. Its been proven, look around...
You could also build your own kit with everything that comes with an AMS kit for around 3k...

Not to jack this thread, but just curious which hotside you used with your 3071 to make that power?

build the AMS kit for 3k??? please list that out.

GT35R-1250$ (i doubt anyone sells a true GT35R cheaper then this)
Tial 38mm gate with reroute pipe-350$
Equal Length tubular manifold-950$ (thast being generous)
Custom made 3" SS mandrel bent downpipe-300$
Custom made 3" O2 housing-300$
Slimline fan-100$
Braided SS Oil feed and return lines (200$, making them to match the AMS kit)
4" intake pipe (150$ ??? I'd say thats fair)
gaskets for everything-100$
Bradied Silicon coolant lines-150$
K&N filter-45$

Thats approaching 4000$ dude and the kit comes assembled ready to go and proven to make huge numbers

The 35r is a close fit. Not to say that a bit of fabrication on a custom turbo kit (you replaced the manifold) is expected.

35r is a big turbo, hard to fab for all cars. There is NO way you can compare stock to a 35r.

Im not saying, go to AMS directly and put together your own kit, go else where, have a manifold made etc, I have done it for a friend for around 3k.
Also there are a few threads here proving not to make huge #'s, theres no magic to there kit, its just as good as most others and will make the same power as others with the same supporting mods.......
