Problems with Exedy HD twin disk

Just got my exedy hd twin disk installed a couple weeks ago. Ive had some concerns, and the guys who put it in are away at sema right now so I cant go to them for help, so maybe someone here can help me out.

Im putting down 300 awhp 310 trq on a mustang dyno, and I have just about 1,000 miles on the exedy clutch, and new tre transfer case installed at the same time. I didnt start boosting or shifting at high rpms until about 700 miles. The engagement is sometimes different, and sometimes it feels like I dont have much clutch feel. But my main concern is shifting into 4th. Everyother gear I havent had a problem with, but when I go to shift into 4th I would push the clutch in, shift into 4th ( im talking about high rpms), and as soon as I would let the clutch pedal out I hear a metallic groan from the drivetrain area, it grabbed but felt rough like I was really forcing it, and it felt that if I shifted to fast It wouldnt grab. Now this morning I missed 4th twice , and 1 time I got it but It made the same awful sound. Anyone have any ideas. I also noticed sometimes in-between higher rpms shift my rpms tend to go up 200-300 rpms rigth as I would dis-engage the clutch to go into the next gear, but I dont have no idea whats causing that.

I appreciate any ideas or input, thanks in advance.

Adjust the clutch travel. Inside of the "back" of the pedal. evomoto.com-->evo tech---> how to--->adjust clutch. This is always the first thing to try.

Lock out is common w/ stock and Act clutches when adjustment is off. It's a b*tch to do physically though... good luck.

Thanks, I hope its just an adjustment issue, but does it make sense that its only a problem with 4th? Now that i think of it when I missed 4th, it did not grind, but just felt like nothing was there. But sometimes it will grab, but would have the same problem I described.

hopefully its just adjustment, does anyone have any idea what that sound im talking about after the engagement( when the clutch first grabs)? Its doing it in 3rd gear also now. I can feel it at the clutch pedal when it does this, it sounds like a bad rub, or grind of some sort, but not when im shifting only after when my foot engages the clutch.

Well if your clutch isn't engaging till the very top of your pedal travel, it might not be fully engaging. The clutch slipping excessively definitely could be your metallic/rubbing noises, especially if its a metallic disk. Do those exedy twin disks have metallic disks? I'd say adjust the pedal so it engages closer to the floor and see if your noise doesn't go away.

Install ss line, remove restictor, install rod extender, bleed, put car on four jackstands and adjust clutch so wheels do not turn with the clutch fully depressed.

I know exactly the sound you are talking about. I just installed my twin disc and I have about 60 miles on it, but mine does it when I first start from a start. The sound can be described as the sound old brakes make on a bicycle ( a friction moan). Sounds horrible. I was also told it was an adjustment problem.

yep same exact sound, i get it starting in first, and when Im trying to shift at higher rpms and it goes into gear, just makes that sound as soon as it engages/grabs.

Twin disks are noisey... will lesson after time but still appearent, nonetheless. I had issues with my Exedy but after I started making about 60whp more (Dynoflash), the clutch began working better. Maybe the pressure plate didn't set properly.

But let us know how adjustment goes for you... I was told different things to do at the time of my issues (similar to yours). Good luck!

Exactly!

What oil are you using in the transmission?
