Test pipes...?

I agree bigger is not always better, but the tech reference you give is not for the 4G63. It is for the NA Lancer. The 4G63 with a bigger turbo (i.e. 20G) is much happier with a larger exhaust system.
Speedlimit.............
Is it possible to eliminate the 90 degree bend into the muffler with a differently shaped pipe??
I'm still sticking with the 3" Plan, as it is a turbo setup. And I think I am going to focus on a full test pipe (catless) config.
You guys RULE,
Thanks for your input,

Wow! I need to get my info straight??
I think you need to look over that link again with a little more reading comprehension. That information is intended for the US Lancer, not the EVO VIII.
It is true, that a naturally aspirtated motor will not benifit from a huge 3 inch exhaust. If a three inch exhaust is used on a NA motor, it will lose low end torque. All my information has come from my own personal trials with dealing with import racing in the last 12 years.
On a TURBO motor, the largest exhaust available is the one that will achieve the largest HP gain. The turbo itself represents a large restriction in the exhaust already. But the the exhaust gases after the turbo must exit as easily as possible to produce the most power.
A newbie error.
Yo...Yo...Bigger is better on a force induction engine. I am sorry, I don't agree that you only need to go with 2 1/4.
Keep in mind...One person's opinion is not fact just because they are part of the evolutionm.net
As for the people looking for test pipes that don't want to wait. Just go to your local muffler shop and they will make one for you, should not cost over $40 or shop another shop.

its all physics
it does not matter how big the exhaust is to an extent, if i have a cat back taht is 10 inches and a 1 inch downpipe my car is still gonna have some backpressure, its when u make all of this a bigger size u have problems
it is true to say though that if you have a stock manifold and downpipe and cat that if you get a 2.25 cat back that is ideal for that setup
if you plan to get/have an intake and/or throttle body then 2.5 is the way to go. 2.5 header back thats the best for the 4g93 which my friend has, we have had it dyno'd with 3 different exhuasts and 2.5 back is the best 3 was too big and lost power while 2.25 was too restrictive after 3000rpms because the 4g93 and 94 are so similar i will stick with that knowledge
one more thing
whoever said 2.25 is ok for a turbo setup, lets just not go there with a turbo bigger is better to a much bigger extent that is to say that a 3 inch exhaust would be great for a turbo imo
my 2 cents
