Oil Pump Timing
Okay, putting my timing belt back on, but had a question regarding the timing of the oil pump sprocket. According to the manual (11B-16 & 11A-57)), it has to be lined up with the mark on the block, but also has to have a 2" clearance of the counterbalancer shaft for a screwdriver. The way I am understanding this is: when aligning the marks on the sprocket and block, there is a possiblity the oil pump can be out by 180 degrees. My question is...is there another way to tell other thna the screwdriver method? I was lookin at it and it seems to be a pain in the *** to get to the plug...
It's easy, but hard to explain.
The oil pump shaft has a lobe on it... when you turn it, it wants to rotate AWAY from the align marks at first. It feels lopsided. Keep rotating it, until it wants to rotate TOWARDS the alignment marks instead. It takes like 2 rotations for this to occur.
