Need help w/ friends Evo!!
My friend just bought a used 2004 Evo yestrerday with 4500k miles. He brought it to work today and i test drove it. The car feels like it has NO power what so ever. It has a JDM MR bov, hks suction intake, Koyo radiator,HKS hi power catback, dp and Samco upper IC hoses. I checked all the hoses and tighted them and still no power. I checked the MR bov and the previous owner had installed it backwards!! I put it back to normal, and the idle improved but still no power. The car does NOT have a boost gauge so i cant tell if its leaking boost or how much its boosting. I did not hear any leaks. One thing that i did notice that, the stock boost hoses were missing, well theres part of the black stock hoses to the turbo and waste gate and then they are attatched to blue hoses with vacum connectors. My friend does not have the stock hoses as he has bought the car used and doesnt have the stock air box. I will check the lower ic pipes and hoses to see if theres any leaks, and we need to get a boost gauge installed to see how much the car is boosting. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated to try to get this issue resolved. Thanks
Yea, I would say the first problem is all the mods without some sort of tune...secondly, I'm not a bog fan of that HKS suction intake...heard lots of "loss of power stories" with the evo with that intake.
i will say it prob. needs a tune, and the boost controller if any on the car isnt working.. ill say he is only running 15 psi.. find the other owner and ask him questions... but i bet he is only running 15 psi.

yeah... this sounds like a car that probably had a ton of mods... sounds like at the last min the owner stripped it of anything he could sell off and just kind of rigged things to get it running and sold it... sounds like one of those used evos not to buy.
The radiator getting replaced is a little scary... I suspect it was upgrade because of:
(1) car got into a front end accident
(2) major major power mods were on the car
(3) the guy had no idea what he was doing?

Im gona check the lower IC pipes also. He will have a boost gauge installed on monday, then i can monitor the boost. I have an extra mbc that i can install on the car and see if it helps. I also did have in mind that the intake is causing the power loss, but it just feels way too weak, my guess is its not boosting. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks for the responses guys

Well, good news! Found the problem.Looks like theres is NO boost solenoid so the car im assuming is at around 10psi. We will hook up a boost gauge and a mbc tomorrow to get that sucka running
