10.5 porting?

i have an 03 evo witch has the 9.8 hotside. i got a 10.5 hot side and wondering if i should port it. will i notice any difference as in power, spool up or what. pros and cons of doing a port job on a 10.5 hotside. or is it not worth it. my car will have alot of other mods.

I ported mine. The stock cast of the 10.5 is really rough. I spent about 2.5 hours porting and polishing.Looks great now. HP gains????

I would at least gasket port match before putting it on.
If you place the stock gasket over the 10.5 inlet you'll notice some spots have a slight 1/16" to 1/8" lip on the casting edges. Use a dremel or something to grind the opening to match the gasket opening size.

Pros? Better flow
Cons? None

/\ I wonder if there is any benefitial gain to be had from doing this...my guess is that by porting the 10.5 you will gain less than 5 hp...

a lot of work if you are going to use drimmel and not much gain.
you need to have the air tool to do the job but still the pain.
everyone should have ported hotside if there were like 10 whp gain.

/\ exactly...for what its worth I dont see the cost/time involved is worth the minimal gains...

As far as I have been able to see, nobody has reported significant gains with the ported 10.5 over stock 10.5 and if so no dyno numbers to show this..

its not all about big HP gains though you know u do a couple here and a couple there thats what gonna set u aside from the other people just look at nascar for example they all pretty much have simiular things underneath the hoods but its the teams who do the LITTLE extras who end up having the stronger engine so yes i would say go ahead and port it

I totally agree that there is a minimal gain to be had from the porting...but for someone who is going from the 9.8 to 10.5 I cant see that the gains will be benefial enough to negate the costs involved..

I plan to do all the parts myself a little at a time. It’s not that big of a deal and it's not expensive to do. It’s a bit of time, but not that bad! I don't think I would personally pay to have this done as the total cost would out weigh the benefits for me….

I am sure porting all your parts has a worthwhile aggregate effect.

That is simply what I am trying to say...that the total cost in this particular part to port outweighs the benefits to be had...

But I could be wrong because there is NO information anywhere that shows a direct correlation in hp/tq gains and a ported 10.5...

How much does it cost to have it ported? Not coated and ported, just ported?

Port and polish kits:

Basic How to:

Although, I don't think I would try a head myself as that is pushing things without a flow bench and experience. :-) Port matching and basic porting of the manifold and other parts is a totally different game...

your not gonna see much hp / tq gain , but doesnt porting the hotside provide less knock than a non ported one?
