I've never had a cam gear slip, on 4 different cars. Never broke a locking bolt either. I do use loc-tite, and torque to the proper specs.

We spent about two hours and maybe 20 settings on the cam gears on a supra on the dyno once, and even after all those adjustments, not a single slip or stretched locking bolt.

I voted no for myself, but I was present when a fellow EVOm member finished test driving another member's car and the gears slipped and made an awful racket. The owner had just done some head work and thought something major was wrong. He was not very happy and thought the guy had done something crazy while out in his car. I won't mention any names, but we all laugh about it now.

I don't want to spoil this, but will it be possible for the persons (well, only one so far) who's had their cam gear failed dur to poor engineering let us know what make that is? I am looking to get a pair and would like to know which ones to avoid.

No slippage or broken bolts despite restting them about 50 times. They have about 34K on them and I have done lots of testing with different cam gear settings as my car has been evolving. I have been able to produce a useable 10 whp gain with them on a Mustang dyno, although gaining top end HP took about the same torque out. The gears I'm using originally came from Vishnu.

I am pretty careful with them when making adjustments and tightening the bolts.

Very informative thread. I am thinking of purchasing some, could you guy post what brand cam gears you are running for my knowledge, thanks. To add to the information shared, I had AEM cam gears on my turbocharged integra which slipped on me twice, and a bolt seized on me the last time it was dynoed. Different application so take the info with a grain of salt.

Fidenza gears I broke one of the bolts on install with a hand nut driver but never failed. Prob was when I broke it it fell down into the acc. belt and was a ***** to get out.

I'nm running the Vishnu gears. I saw one of the sets out now uses what look to be 10mm or 1/4" bolts which should never break or slip without something being really screwed up. I'll see if I can find them.
