You have the WR, but have you tried a TME with alk? if so, could you give the difference as you see it? You live close, maybe we should do a "seat of the Pants" test! Thanks for the input.
I have not tried a TME w/alky, and my sister-in-law lives in Indy/Muncie area.

maybe time for a "comparitive" test when the weather warms up a bit? We can report the results on here. Muncie is NOT far at all from me.

Looks like an invitation to a race to me

Remember, even < 5 HP gain can be a very significant improvement if it occurs throughout the rpms. Peak numbers can be decieving. It's the net area of improvement on the graph that counts.

smokedmustang, I live not too far away from West Bloomfield, so yeah I know exactly where that is. BTW, I love Indy. Fun city.

As far as spool time, the regular TME turbo that you already have will spool the fastest. Dave said the new 20g-9 will spool a little later than the stock 10.5 turbo, but if he put TiAl hardware in it, who knows.

The 20g-9 will beat the redular 10.5 and the TME turbo "from a roll" becasue even at moderate rpm (where all three make good power instantaneously) the 20g-9 flat out makes more power over the entire curve. If you start the race at low rpm, say 2k or 1750 or so, the TME would shine a bit more than the 20g-9, but no one races from a roll like that so its kind of a moot point. However, that is something to consider for auto-x. For road racing, 20g-9 should be the better turbo, assuming it does make the advertised power and doesnt surge as dave suggests.

Basically, I think we need to just pull up a lawn chair and drink margaritas for a few months until people start testing these things out.

Lets do a summary:

TME great for spool
20G-8 good top end but boost/power surge
20G-9 good top end and no boost/power surge

so , why not to do a 20G-9 with Titanium wheels? better spool and better top end.

The price should be $200 more for just putting the ti wheels on the 20G-9, that is what BR is asking.

I think Dave said around $1500 for the trubo upgrade and the mounting kit being the EVO 9 turbo isn't a direct bolt on. Add another 200-300 for the TME internals as well. He said that the price may go down at a later date,b ut for now the turbos are just hard to come by and are still on the expensive side themselves.

I've seen TME turbos for as low as $825 lately.

The other issue is if you put the TME internals together with the 20g, it's likely to cause compressor surge. When you take a turbo that is on the brink of comp surge on spoolup, and make it spool earlier, it's going to surge worse.
