2.3 with ported head and HKS 280s question

Does anyone know what this combo would do with a stock turbo with 10.5 hotside?

2.3 ltr
ported head
HKS 280s (in0, ex0)

Spool VERY fast, and probably die out faster than stock displacement.

That setup screams gt35r, why would you handicap it with the stocker?

Well I've been breaking the car in. I'm thinking of going with a 3037, because I love to autocross. Although the GT35r is a nice turbo, I don't think it'll suit me in an autocross event.

Well that's pretty funny. The Xede is having it hit 17.5 pounds pretty quick, then the boost dies off to 14 psi by the time the RPMs get to 7600. Going to see what a manual boost controller can do. Has anyone else tried this and got 22psi of boost with this setup. Just playing until I get a 3037 kit.

The 2.3 will fall flat on it's face after 5000 rpm and your stock turbo will be fully spooled by 1000 rpm in first gear. The 280's might buy you another 200 rpm top end.

Ask Smogrunner what happens when you play too much with the MBC.

with a 30R you'll feel the full kick by 4000 RPM (full boost by 3200-3300 rpm). The bigger displacement motors are really a pleasure to drive off boost and are faster through the gears.

That would be a really nice set up - 30R with 280's - if you have a way to control the idle and stalling issues.

Most I could get out of it with the 280s\2.3\PP'd head\Xede w/smart\stock turbo\ 311hp@280tq. The turbo runs out of boost so fast it's not funny. I'll be going for a 3037 kit. GT35 is too laggy for autocross.

Look for 325/325 tq/hp on a DD with that set-up on 91. Peak torque around 4500 rpm. Should pull strong through about 7000 with your set-up and a 30R.

I expect a 3037 to way more that 325hp\325tq. Am I crazy for that? What do you guys thinking the average range of power is with the combo above adding a 3037. I'm also looking for twin turbo kits

I've seen a combo similar to this. On a Dyno Jet it put down 375 tq/370 whp which is about 330tq/325whp on a Dyno Dynamics. But that was on 91. You might do better depending on how your turbo is configured and how you tune it. If you run race gas, you could pick up 100 whp and tq depending on the turbo kit.

For now my combo is this:
280s 0, 0\2.3\PP'd head\Xede w/smart\stock turbo-10.5\3" TBE\Buschur Deluxe FMIC

I'll be throwing in a 3037 kit. Not sure which one yet. So far I'm looking at Vishnu and Full-Race. They are the only ones that offer a 3037 kit that I know of. Anyone else know of another company that offers this turbo?

The 3076 is so close to the 3037 that most people consider them the same turbo. The Vishnu looks stealth and uses the stock manifold but can be a little pricey. There are a number of kits on the market that can handle a GT series turbo; a 30R in your case. Search "Turbo Kit" and read.

Pick a vendor based on your ability to get after sales support and tuning. If your shop doesn't like a particular set-up, you will have a difficult time getting it dialed in.
