Aftermarket ECU Driveability
Aftermarket ECU Driveability
There is so much misconception about aftermarket ECUs I figured I would post my experience so far. I switched to the EMS a few days ago and was trying to work out a bunch of problems with it from the start (Wiring problems, idle problems, starting problems, etc, etc). I did manage to make a map that could start the car and make it drive around decently... it was not great driveability and I was very worried that this was about as good as it would get (Mainly from hearing a bunch of bs stories from other people). Anyways, I talked with Sean Ivey and decided to have him make me a map for my car. Granted he was not with the car, couldnt even see any logs or anything. I just told him what the mods were and he whipped up a map and sent it to me. I figured at best it would make the car run and I would need to keep sending him log files for a few days until we could get the car to "daily driver" status. I was wrong.
The man is a genius for the AEM EMS. I plugged in the map he sent me, and the car fired up and idled perfectly... I was pretty happy because for a base map it was doing great so far. Anyways, so I got to driving it around to see how his map did. I was amazed.... it drives MUCH better than the stock ECU would. It idles much better (You can not even tell there are cams really in it anymore). The light throttle stuff reacts faster than it ever did before, when I let off the gas it is perfect. I was completely amazed at how this baseline map made the car instantly run better than it has in over 6 months screwing with the stock ECU and reflashes. The reflashes werent bad and they did fine for decent power but could never compare to anything close to the way the car drives already. I cant wait to get it dialed in more.
Anyways, I just wanted to post up at how well the aftermarket ECUs can be with a pro tuning it. Definately talk to Sean Ivey if you want to get your car tuned... anything for driveability stuff or for ***** out power. You will not be dissappointed.

Any aftermarket ECU or piggyback is certainly helped by a competant tuner. Shiv is great with the XEDE and Sean Ivey is obviously great with the AEM. A good tuner makes all the difference. I have seen cars that wouldn't even run turn into gems with a good tuner, regardless of EM system.
Exactly my point
If you need a car tuned with any type of EMS I would recommend Sean. He is honestly amazing. I never used the XEDE system or even seen it but I know Sean can tune pretty much any type of EMS. I think he is reflashing now also or very soon. I am looking forward to seeing some of his reflashed cars... I can promise that his will most likely be the best as far as reflashing goes.
I was just happy to see that aftermarket ECUs and piggybacks alike can and will make the car run better than it ever did.

Sean Ivey I think is a DSMguy originally. I know he helped Al with his AEM, IIRC. He is a well respected EMS tuner.
