you probably lost some mid range torque and gained some high rpm hp. The tradeoff makes the car feel slower, and it probably is unless you keep the rpms up. If you get a tune, you'll get most of your torque back and the ol butt dyno will be happy.

You would feel the difference even without the tune, at least I did.

How much did you gain by just dropping them in?

Butts dont tell you nothing with 30 whp, all they tell you is when the power is smooth you dont feel the torque yet smooth power is what makes it accelerate in less time. When I installed the cams, the car felt a little faster but my times were the same. Then I got tuned and the butt tells me slower but the stopwatch says faster.

Ive heard a lot of people say the average person cannot tell anything less than a 10hp increase in a common production car. I know I cant. So if you gained say 15hp or so like razorlab did, it might not feel that much different.

I would disagree with the "you lose low and mid but gain top end" statement. When i installed HKS 272's i noticed a bit of difference in the top end and even more through out the power band when i got tuned.

You need a tune, you wont get any power increase without a tune.

yes, but we're talking before a tune. After a tune, by all means you get your torque back through the low and midrange. This guy hasn't been tuned yet.

Hi,

Just to add my experience. After installing Buddy Club 264/272 cams, car felt faster from mid range up. Also, sounded a little meaner. In fact, it sounded a little "too" mean, so I put my Helix silencer in for a few weeks. Car didn't "feel" that much slower with the silencer, more on that in a moment.

I went to Pruven, and mentioned to Al that I would like to do a before and after with the silencer. He thought it would be interesting. With silencer installed, first pull was ~259 WHP. ouch. We got the silencer out, and did another pull and hit 300 WHP. Wow!

Anyway, after the flash and more boost (my gauge was reading low), I left with 331 WHP and 338 WTQ actual on Pruven's dynojet. So, there was significant gain from tuning, so obviously, get tuned. As you can imagine, coming in with ~250 WHP and leaving with ~331 WHP made a VERY noticeable difference, that the butt dyno could certainly feel. I would guess that the cams added about 10-15 WHP peak, but a much broader curve (esp uptop) even without tuning, although I didn't have the before and after untuned...

Good luck,
