well putting a new turbo would pretty much void any warranty you have. the stock motor can handle quite a bit of abuse but it all depends on how big of a turbo you want to go with. either way im pretty sure you warranty wouldnt exist if you put a new turbo on. best bet is put a TBE exhaust and other assorted parts on it and get it tuned.
In a similar mindset to you I went with the FP White Rabbit for the extra power up top that I felt the car was lacking. The car undoubtedly holds boost far better and spools much quicker.
I presently have the car tuned with the usual bolt ons (3" Exhaust w/cat, MBC, flash) and the WR. After having gotten the car tuned for pump gas, 22psi (which it maintains flat across the rev range) I'd say the results are mixed. The car feels strong since it was tuned in early september but my numbers dont necessarilly stand as favorably as I'd like to recent winter numbers posted. The shape of my dyno curve and the power it *builds* toward redline is nice compared to my stock turbo setup though.
My impressions is that the tradeoff for people in our position is Alchohol Injection/WR or 20g and 25-27psi peak to edge the power made by aftermarket cam equipped EVOs on straight pump with a 10.5t. Also, the stock airbox/maf pipe are seemingly too restrictive for the compressor side on these turbos.
High boost has its negative effects though, the stock headbolts are not likely to hold up to 25-27psi daily in the long term, and the ARP studs seem to inevitably back themselves out over time in this condition as well.
My best advice would be to hold the money, maintain the car as best as possible and just enjoy it for what it is if you can't afford to void your warranty. These stock modified turbos simply require much higher boost to make a cost effective dent. I'd sell my car in a second for a STOCK evo, if the car is not running 11s than the pump whine, boost leaks, and other hassles involved with a modified evo are simply not worth it. Id much prefer having a car that I could still bring in for any minor issue present.

I dont think you'll blow your engine with an upgraded turbo as long as you have a safe tune and run a reasonable amount of boost there are several turbos out there that can replace the stock turbo without the need for a new manifold, etc...I guess it just depends how much your willing to sacrifice to get more HP. If you really want to keep the warranty a few bolt ons should be fine.
Replacing your turbo already on your MR is not fair at all. What type of mods do you have already?, there are many mnay things you can do to your car to enhance performance utilizing the stock turbo.
Jumping into a upgrade turbo is in my opinion a very precipitated decision, not just because your are getting a bigger turbo means faster, spool up means a lot also, driveability is paramaount.
You should seriously focus on a few of the bolt ons available in the market, specially the Turbo backs, the MBC, the cams, the alcohol kits and other miscellaneous minor upgrades that way if you are still not happy with the stock turbo then you can positively say that the stock turbo is not for you, but the best part is that all the mods that you installed trying to maximize your turbo will be already there for your bigger turbo.
There are people running mid 11's with the stock turbo, Warrtalon and Evofunk ran 12 flat with minor mods and they both trap good speeds 113-114mph.
Getting into a new turbo might involved other expenses like fuel pump, injectors, special tunning and perhaps some piggyback not to mention the labor.
since you have the MR, please look at www.evolutionmr.net and see what other MR owners are running.
My future goals are:
02 housing from works
DC sports turbo manifold
retune on Methanol
run my car at lower altitude and perhaps add a few fallons of race fuel.
