Question Help with whining noise, don't think it's a boost leak.

I installed a BR lower IC pipe the other day and a day later the turbo seemed to develop a whine above 15 psi of boost.
Seemed like an obvious boost leak to me so I rechecked everything and still had the noise. I added some clamps and leak wrap and that didn't work either.
Here's the thing, I'm holding 20.5 psi like always and the turbo is spooling as quick as always. In addition, I don't get the sound if I slowly boost up to 20 psi.
Could there be another reason for this sound? Do lower IC pipes increase the sound of the turbo?

Boost leaks don't whine, they whistle.

Could be your Transfer case going out. Does it sound like a tornado siren? mine started with 60MPH to 80MPH. the boost is going up, as is your SPEED. it could be that. (of course if you cant find a boost leak. Have them drain the TC fluid, and re-fill, and see if it goes away.
What are your mods if any? miles? fluid in TC? need more to "chew-on" It may have NOTHING to do with the pipe install at all.

Warrtalon, I'm glad you saw this. It is definitely a whine, almost like a second turbo sound above 14 psi. Boost holds fine and there doesn't seem to be a loss of power. Any ideas?

The sound goes up with boost only. I tested this by stepping on the gas from different gears and RPMs. The sound is completely gone without boost. I read your TC threads I'm hoping that is not the problem.

My mods are a BR 2.5" DP, Forge BOV, BR MAF pipe, BR muffler, MBC set to 20.5 psi and flash. The lower ic pipe is my newest mod. I did just have my exhaust off the car. The sound is coming from the turbo area.

I'll continue the hunt this weekend for a leak. I'm begining to think it may be a small hole in the coupling that came with the BR lower ic pipe. It just seems too loud not to affect boost. The fact that it is a whine is leading me to believe it may be on the suction side, ie. the MAF pipe.

The lower IC pipe is tricky to get right . Its the hardest part in the IC system to get to so it the 1st place to leak . Do a search for homemade boost leak tester . I'll bet the lower IC pipe is fine its prob the clamp/hose/bead not set right. It only makes sence to look at the last thing you done befoer the prob started.

Edit

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...st+leak+tester

but i use a valve steam from a wheel and not a 1/8 fitting

when you drive the car, at what boost do you hear it? and at the same time, how fast are you going? Can you get to that speed without hitting the boost? if so, and the noise is NOT there, it is probably a leak. I had a IC hose leak at the bend by the battery, it cracked INSIDE the hose, it was soft to squeeze, replaced that, and it was gone. Another thing, if you look at the clamp, and it appears on, it could be off on the side you cant see. This also happenend to me. Good luck with it, and let us know what happens.

I agree with Matt55 also. I have never used a leak tester though.
