My IX's first oil change....

Well, it's pretty neat to learn about this car every day. I crawl up under the car, noticed an oily residue Wednesday when I put the HKS catback on, but thought it my be grease from the Ujoints. Nonetheless, I get under the car and there is oil around the pan and filter area. I cleaned it up and couldn't find a steady drip. Looked up my the valvecover and nothing. So I thought I would change the oil and see what happens. If it is like this next week, it is going to the dealer.

So I first see the oil plug. Weird little bugger. I don't know if the line connected to it is a sending line for some sort of instrumentation or if it is just a lanyard to keep the plug close by. Any others care to comment? Is this on the VIII's as well?

Dumped the oil, replaced the filter with Mobil M1-110. I know...Use factory. The dealership doesn't open until 10. Replaced with 5.1 quarts of Mobil 10w 30 and started the car. Oil light off..Yay! Let it set. Check the oil level. All is well.

So, just felt like I would share those observations with you all. A little odd about the oil mess. After the start up, I checked for leaks and nothing. Also, the little line from the oil plug is weird. Any ideas? Maybe it is on the VIII's too....Just haven't read about it. BTW, the car has 1300 miles on it. Properly broken in for not 800 miles but 1000 miles and still haven't beat on it.

Blah...Ok...So that is the oil temp sensor sender on the plug? Someone correct me if I am wrong. Odd place to have it though.

I was thinking about that but it seemed higher than where the drain plug was. Nonetheless, I will go and get yet another one.

I already hit the 1000 mile mark on my IX also. So the evo takes 5.1 quarts? I should be changing it out this weekend.

I changed the oil on my IX at 800 miles and added a new crush washer...had a few drops of oil come out, then tightened the drain plug a little more. No leaks now.
..Anyone else have a hard time getting the oil filter off on their IX?

I usually ended up putting about 4.3 qts in the viii and that was with changing the filter. I think the oil in the cooler stays in there...

He filled it up to the top thinking too much can't hurt nothing.

think most of the oil in the cooler lines and cooler drains out when you take the filter off. could be wrong though.

I don't think the 2005 manual tell us how many quarts we need to put in.
At least i couldn't find it. Maybe the 2006 manual tells you.
