evo 8 16g question..?

although this topic may have been beaten to death i cannot find EXACTLY what im looking for and ive been searching, me and my buddy who has a wrx(getting a deadbolt super 16g) argued back and forth today for a while about 16g...i read somewhere on this forum that an evo 8 16g flows arounds 625cfm and 42lbs/min....hes argueing that the evo 8 16g with 9.8 hotside flows at 510cfm(saying its the small 16g) and that the 10.5 hotside flows at 550cfm(saying its the big 16g) im pretty sure my research is right but can anyone provide me with answers, opinions, and definitely flow charts.....thanks very much guys

I belive your friend is very correct. The turbo he is refering to is the turbo from deadboltenterprises, I almost bought that turbo myself for my WRX.

He is also corect on the 16 G flows that he gave you, but I want to say our 10.5 hotside flows around 550CFM.

The company that he mentioned has indeed and perhaps the largest variety of turbos for the same car, they build these specially made turbos for the WRX/sti, kONG, SUPERZILLA and stuff like that.

yeah i had a wrx with a port and polished vf22 before my evo and am very familiar with deadbolt enterprise but i was under the impression the evo 8 16g was different from any other 16g?

Well, the 16G for the WRX and the 16 G for the Evo are similar in performance and flow but absolutely different on shape, the Exhaust side on the WRX where it meets the Downpipe is very different than the Evo 16G, then the fixture that powers the turbo coming from the header is also very different.

Your friends info is wrong. Changing hotside on the evo8 turbo has nothing to do with whether the turbo is a big or small 16. The evo turbo should be termed evo turbo because it is different from the dsm small16 and dsm big16. Compressor maps are charts of the compressor wheel flow. Changing hot sides has nothing to do with the compressor map chart. The chart would be the same for an evo with 9.8 or 10.5 hotside. There are maps for hotside flow , but they are rarely posted anywhere.

I have seen maps for the small16g, big16g, evo16g, and 20g, so the info posted about there flow numbers is preety darn close. I have no idea what compressor wheel comes in the wrx turbo. I know it wont be the evo8 reverse rotation blade. That would be finacial suicide. The dsm 16g wheel turbos are much cheaper to buy.

I thought that Forced Performance had the specs. When I ordered my evo3 16g for my DSM I rememberd the flow rates being more than an 18g but less than a 20g. And the evo8 turbo had the same flow characteristics as the evo3.

Not that this proves anything, but maybe if you write forced performance youcan get what you need for proof.
