Question Strange timing belt problem

Guys.....I need some advice......

This AM, I took my timing cover off to install a new Zekle clear cover.....I went to check my timing belt and discovered it was loose!!! You could almost take it off!!!

WTF!!! I started the car for a few seconds and......the timing belt tightened itself!

It is tight and solid....The car is stock with no mods....

Its another Mitsubishi mystery...If I take it to the dealer more than likely I will get the same BS..."nothing is wrong with the car"...or "wait until it breaks".

Did this happen to anyone else?

Does anybody have any opinions?

Thanks.

unless the belt sags between the Cam gears you timing belt will be fine...if it does sag, you might want to replace the Hydrolic tensioner, otherwise, dont worry about it...everything is normal..

The auto tensioner should keep tension on the belt. Its common to have some slack. But if its as loose as you say take it to the dealer asap your tensioner could be bad. Btw how many miles do you have on the car?
